This role ensures that the organization's network is reliable, efficient, and meets the needs of the business. Department Summary The Network Infrastructure Technician(s) who are part of the I/T Department are responsible for the installation, maintenance, and support of the physical network infrastructure. This includes cabling, hardware, and other related components that form the backbone of the organization's network. The department ensures that the network infrastructure is reliable, efficient, and capable of supporting the organization's communication and data needs. Skills Strong Knowledge of the skills below Network Cabling standards (TIA/EIA-568) Knowledge of Fiber Optic Standards Voice cabling Video cabling Low voltage cabling for security panels, patient care systems, etc. Proficiency in using cable testers and diagnostic tools Proficiency in the termination of voice, video, low voltage and fiber optic cabling Detail oriented Excellent problem solving skills Excellent troubleshooting skills Communicate effectively Adaptability to changing work environment or needsResponsibilities & Expectations Cable Installation:
Install, terminate, and test network cabling, including CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6a, and fiber optic cables. Follow structured cabling standards and best practices.Cable Maintenance:
Perform routine maintenance on network cabling, including inspections, repairs, and replacements. Ensure that cables are properly labeled and documented.Network Infrastructure:
Install and configure network infrastructure components, such as patch panels, racks, and cable trays. Ensure that all installations comply with industry standards and safety regulations.Troubleshooting:
Identify and resolve network issues related to cabling and infrastructure. Use diagnostic tools to pinpoint problems and implement solutions.Documentation:
Maintain detailed documentation of network cabling layouts, configurations, and maintenance activities. Create network diagrams and update documentation as changes are made.Testing:
Conduct testing and certification of newly installed or relocated cables to ensure they meet performance standards. Use cable testers and other diagnostic tools to verify connectivity and signal quality.Project Support:
Assist with network infrastructure projects, including upgrades and expansions. Work with other IT teams to coordinate project timelines and ensure successful implementation.User Support:
Provide technical support to end-users regarding network connectivity issues. Assist with cable management and organization in workstations and server rooms.Vendor Management:
Work with vendors to procure cabling materials and equipment. Manage inventory and ensure that supplies are available when needed.Compliance:
Ensure that all network cabling and infrastructure installations comply with industry standards, safety codes, and organizational policies. Working Conditions Work eight hours a day. Some work may require to be done after normal business hours The support of Aultman Health System's Network requires 24x7x365 coverage. Some weekend work may be required. 100% Work on site Lunch periods and breaks are coordinated with other staff members to maintain adequate coverage. Cross training in all areas in the department is required. Travel within a "80" mile radius is required Hazardous Exposure Category Category III - Includes tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and Category I tasks are not a condition of employment. The normal work routine involves no exposure to blood; body fluids or tissues (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone anywhere might encounter potential exposure to body fluids.)
