Position Summary The Product Owner drives backlog management, prioritization, and delivery of technology solutions that support Redwood Trust's mortgage-related businesses. Partnering closely with the VP of Product Management, business stakeholders, and agile delivery teams, this role translates business needs into clear problem statements and well-defined user stories, guiding delivery from discovery through testing, training, and launch. This role contributes to the creation of functional and/or technical requirements and user interface requirements as needed to support business needs, applying strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to support successful delivery of project outcomes. Success in this role also requires strong organizational skills to manage multiple stakeholders and workstreams simultaneously, the ability to learn new domains and tools quickly, and the agility to think on your feet as priorities shift in a fast-moving, agile environment. Responsibilities & Duties Own and prioritize the team backlog, ensuring items are well-groomed, clearly defined, and ready for development. Translate business needs into clear, well-structured problem statements and write user stories with actionable acceptance criteria. Guide the scrum team through sprint planning, backlog refinement, and daily execution by clarifying requirements and unblocking questions in real time. Define and maintain product vision, sprint goals, and release plans in partnership with the Product Manager and Scrum Master. Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to align priorities and ensure the product vision continues to reflect strategic goals. Drive agile best practices and continuous improvement across product, analytics, and delivery processes. Conduct data analysis to inform product decisions. Monitor industry and mortgage-market trends relevant to the product roadmap. Elicit requirements through interviews, workshops, document analysis, and other discovery methods, distinguishing what users ask for from the underlying problem they need solved. Mediate between business and IT to prioritize competing requirements and establish realistic, reliable delivery schedules. Manage multiple concurrent priorities, stakeholders, and deadlines with strong organizational discipline. Required Experience, Skills, & Competencies 3+ years of subject matter experience with residential or commercial mortgage areas. 3+ years of experience in a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or Data Analyst role. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Proven experience owning a backlog in an agile environment. Demonstrated ability to develop clear problem statements and translate them into well-written user stories and acceptance criteria. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders, priorities, and workstreams at once. Quick learner who can pick up new domains, tools, and business context rapidly and think on their feet in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment. Strong analytical skills — able to critically evaluate information from multiple sources, reconcile differing viewpoints, and abstract from low-level detail to a general understanding of the underlying business need. Solid knowledge of software application development lifecycles, including QA and UAT design and management. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience in financial services or the mortgage industry. Experience with LauraMac software. Familiarity driving implementation of AI-driven solutions. Experience using GenAI tools to accelerate requirements documentation, testing, or workflow automation, and applying ML for predictive analytics. The actual salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, geographic location, training, licensure and certification, and other factors.
