Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior WooCommerce Developer to build and scale a high-performance, fully custom WooCommerce store for our growing eCommerce business. While our primary platform is WooCommerce, experience with Shopify is highly desirable. A candidate with strong WordPress expertise who can also support and extend Shopify-related functionality will be considered an excellent fit. This is not a standard WordPress or template-based project. We require a developer with deep technical expertise in WooCommerce, custom development, and complex payment integrations; particularly with alternative and high-risk payment gateways. This role presents a unique opportunity to architect and develop our eCommerce platform from the ground up, with a strong emphasis on speed, conversion optimization, scalability, and security. We are specifically seeking a long-term partner—not a short-term freelancer; who can grow with the business and contribute strategically over time.
Key Responsibilities :
Develop a custom WooCommerce store tailored to the unique needs of the business. This is a ground-up build with no reliance on templates. Ensure the platform is optimized for speed, performance, and scalability, with a strong focus on high-traffic periods and long-term growth. Design and implement custom checkout flows that optimize user experience and conversion rates. Integrate and manage alternative and high-risk payment processors to ensure secure transactions. Ensure the platform complies with industry regulations, security standards, and PCI compliance, maintaining a secure and stable eCommerce environment. Set up and manage the hosting environment, ideally a VPS or cloud-based solution, ensuring scalability, uptime, and security. Work closely with business, marketing, operations, and IT teams to translate business needs into technical solutions. Monitor site performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement changes to improve scalability, reliability, and customer experience.
Requirements :
Technical Expertise :
Strong proficiency in PHP, JavaScript, MySQL, and WooCommerce-specific development. Experience with custom plugin development and building bespoke eCommerce features. Expertise in integrating high-risk payment gateways and other alternative payment systems. In-depth understanding of site performance optimization, A/B testing, SEO, and CRO techniques. Industry Knowledge (Preferred): Previous experience in industries with regulatory challenges or high-risk payment environments. Strong understanding of eCommerce systems architecture and high-revenue online stores.
Security & Compliance :
Experience with PCI compliance and regulatory requirements for high-risk industries. Familiarity with security best practices for payment processing and eCommerce platforms.
Experience :
5+ years of hands-on WooCommerce and WordPress development experience with a proven track record of custom WooCommerce builds.
Additional Skills :
Familiarity with headless WooCommerce or custom front-end frameworks is a plus. Knowledge of DevOps, Agile/Scrum, and modern software delivery methodologies. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Bonus :
Experience with supplements, CBD, or other regulated industries. Experience with advanced tools like Salesforce Commerce Cloud (SFCC), API integrations, and enterprise-level system architecture. Knowledge of cloud hosting and the ability to scale systems efficiently.
Compensation:
$100k to $180k
DOE Pay:
$100,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
Work Location:
In person
