Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all. Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever. The Data Center Workload Engineering team evaluates how memory and storage products perform within complete data center environments. The team deploys customer-representative workloads across AI, databases, virtualization, and software-defined storage in production-class laboratory environments. By tracing application I/O through hardware and software stacks, the team identifies performance characteristics and opportunities for optimization. As a Systems Performance Engineering Intern, you will partner with experienced engineers on a defined performance analysis project that delivers meaningful business value. You will complete real-world workloads on enterprise-class systems, collect and analyze performance data, develop automation tools, and present technical findings to collaborators. The role provides direct mentorship, exposure to advanced data center technologies, and hands-on experience with production-scale infrastructure. ### Responsibilities
- Execute performance validation and benchmarking activities on enterprise servers, GPU-accelerated systems, and data center storage platforms using established test methodologies.
- Configure and run customer-representative workloads, including AI inference, databases, virtualization, checkpointing, or object storage environments.
- Collect, validate, and analyze system and device telemetry to ensure data quality, repeatability, and actionable performance insights.
- Develop or enhance Python-based automation tools for test setup, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Investigate and present findings on a defined performance engineering project, contributing code, documentation, and results back to the team. ### Minimum Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, with an expected graduation date after the internship concludes.
- Completed coursework in operating systems, computer architecture, systems programming, or closely related subjects.
- Demonstrated experience working in Linux environments, including command-line tools, file systems, processes, and basic system administration.
- Programming experience in Python, C, C++, or a comparable programming language.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, including experience using AI Assisted coding tools to support software development and technical productivity. ### Preferred Qualifications
- Academic, personal, or internship experience involving performance measurement, benchmarking, profiling, or systems analysis.
- Familiarity with performance analysis tools such as perf, fio, iostat, bpftrace, or language-level profilers.
- Knowledge of storage technologies and concepts, including block devices, NVMe, PCIe, or file system internals.
- Experience with data analysis and visualization using Python tools such as pandas, matplotlib, or similar libraries.
- Exposure to AI workloads, GPU computing environments, databases, virtualization platforms, distributed storage systems, and version control tools such as Git. ### What You Will Gain
- Ownership of a well-defined technical project with measurable work.
- Dedicated mentorship and regular technical reviews with experienced engineers.
- Hands-on experience with production-class lab hardware, including GPU platforms and current-generation SSD technologies.
- The opportunity to present project outcomes to the engineering team and contribute to work that may be considered for publication.
