We are looking for humble geniuses, who believe that engineering has the potential to make the impossible possible; innovators, who are not only inspired by technology and innovation, but also perpetually driven to design, develop, and test as a trusted partner for Fortune 500 customers. As a team of remarkably diverse engineers, we recognize that what we are really engineering is a brighter future for us all. If you want to contribute to meaningful work and be part of an organization that truly believes when you win, we all win, and when you fail, we all learn, then we're eager to hear from you. The achievers and courageous challenge-crushers we seek, have the following characteristics and skills:
Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Site Design Engineer to design and optimize site layouts for the installation of fuel cell systems in various environments, with a strong focus on creating layouts for new customers. This role requires a deep understanding of construction standards, the ability to collaborate effectively with top Civil Eng. firms, and the expertise to reduce installation costs through innovative construction methods and strategies. You will work closely with clients to ensure their specific needs are met while developing cost-effective, code-compliant site layouts that facilitate efficient fuel cell system integration.
What You Will Do:
Site Layout Design for
Fuel Cell Systems:
Develop and design site layouts for the installation of fuel cell systems for new customers, including equipment placement, power distribution, and auxiliary systems. Ensure layouts are optimized for space, safety, operational efficiency, and scalability, tailored to each customer's specific needs.
Customer-Specific Design and Customization:
Collaborate directly with new customers to understand their unique energy requirements and site constraints. Create customized site layouts that meet customer expectations while optimizing operational and construction efficiency. Provide technical expertise and support throughout the design process.
Cost Optimization & Innovative Construction Methods:
Identify opportunities to reduce installation costs without compromising quality or safety. Work with EPC firms and internal product designers to introduce innovative construction methods and materials, such as modular or prefabricated solutions, to improve efficiency and reduce on-site labor costs. Manage the requirements between the EPC firms and product design. Collaboration with
EPC Firms:
Work closely with EPC contractors to ensure that site layouts align with the design requirements, construction capabilities, and cost constraints. Provide technical guidance to EPC teams and identify opportunities to reduce construction costs and timelines through innovative construction methods.
Construction Standards & Code Compliance:
Ensure that all designs meet relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and building codes (e.g., NFPA, OSHA, IEC). Ensure that site layouts comply with local zoning and permitting requirements.
System Integration & Layout Optimization:
Integrate fuel cell systems with existing infrastructure, such as electrical distribution and backup power systems. Design layouts that allow for seamless integration, with a focus on system performance, ease of access for maintenance, and long-term reliability. Plan adjacency to MEP yards, intakes/exhaust, noise setbacks, crane access, and expansion zones; protect uptime and maintainability. Engineer water/DI water, cooling water or dry-cooler interfaces, drains/blowdown/neutralization, gas/hydrogen supply, vent/relief stacks, purges, and condensate management; ensure backflow prevention, metering, and safe discharge locations.
Site Survey & Assessment:
Conduct site surveys for new customer locations to assess space, environmental conditions, and infrastructure. Provide recommendations for site preparation, including land grading, utility connections, and foundation requirements for fuel cell systems.
Documentation & Reporting:
Prepare and maintain clear documentation for site layouts, permitting, and construction plans. Provide customers with detailed documentation and reports to ensure transparency and alignment with project goals.
What You Will Bring:
:
Education:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
10+ years of experience in designing site layouts for complex energy systems, preferably fuel cells or similar technologies (e.g., power plants, renewable energy systems). Experience with customer-facing roles and understanding customer requirements for energy systems is essential. Experience with Data Center design a plus.
Technical Skills:
Able to apply first principles logic and methods. Strong understanding of construction standards, regulations, and codes. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) for creating site layouts and construction drawings. Experience with structural, mechanical integration on site power generation. Electrical knowledge a plus. Familiarity with modular construction methods, prefabrication, and cost-effective construction practices. Knowledge of power distribution systems, backup power, and energy storage solutions as they relate to fuel cell systems.
Customer-Facing Skills:
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with customers to understand their needs and deliver tailored, high-quality solutions. Proven experience with a commercial mindset: Managing customer expectations, providing technical support, and delivering complex energy solutions while identifying opportunities to bring additional value to the customer.
Problem-Solving & Innovation:
Ability to identify challenges in site design and construction and propose innovative solutions that meet both cost and technical requirements. Strong analytical skills to optimize layouts for efficiency and scalability.
Project Management Skills:
Strong project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and ensure timely delivery of designs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Hands-on experience with the installation and commissioning of fuel cell systems or other power generation systems. Knowledge of advanced construction techniques, including modular construction or pre-fabrication methods for energy system installations. Experience in working with energy storage solutions or hybrid energy systems.
Pay Range:
$33.00- $38.46/hr Compensation decisions are made based on factors including experience, skills, education, and other job-related factors, in accordance with our internal pay structure. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, paid time off, and retirement plan.
