Job Description
Overview The Senior Lead Software Engineer provides technical leadership, software engineering expertise, and team management support for a mid-size simulation development program. This position is responsible for leading software design, development, integration, testing, deployment, and sustainment activities across one or more simulation software workstreams while helping manage software personnel, technical priorities, development processes, and delivery performance. The Senior Lead Software Engineer combines hands-on software engineering capability with leadership of development teams to ensure simulation software solutions are delivered in alignment with program requirements, architecture objectives, quality standards, schedule commitments, and mission needs. The role requires experience in simulation software development, technical integration, and leading software teams in a collaborative engineering environment. Responsibilities Lead software engineering activities for a mid-size simulation development program, including design, development, integration, testing, deployment, and sustainment. Provide day-to-day technical leadership and team coordination for software developers working on simulation applications, services, interfaces, and supporting tools. Support planning, tasking, prioritization, and execution of software work to meet program cost, schedule, performance, and quality objectives. Translate simulation system requirements and operational needs into software development approaches, architectures, and implementation plans. Oversee software design decisions, coding practices, integration approaches, and defect resolution efforts. Support software team management, including work assignment, technical mentoring, collaboration, and performance support for assigned personnel. Coordinate software development activities with systems engineering, test, integration, cybersecurity, configuration management, and program management teams. Contribute to software architecture, interface design, data flow design, and technical baseline management for simulation solutions. Ensure software products are secure, maintainable, scalable, and aligned with approved engineering standards and lifecycle processes. Lead or support agile, iterative, or hybrid software development activities such as sprint planning, backlog refinement, demonstrations, reviews, and retrospectives. Review source code, technical designs, build processes, and test results to ensure technical quality and readiness. Support troubleshooting of complex software and integration issues across simulation components and development environments. Track software team progress, technical risks, dependencies, and issues and communicate status to program leadership. Support software release planning, configuration management, DevSecOps processes, and environment coordination. Participate in customer meetings, technical reviews, milestone events, and management briefings as needed.
