Job Title:
Software Engineer Job Description We are seeking a dedicated Software Engineer to develop, improve, and maintain commissioning software tools. These tools will be used to configure devices, run test sequences, and provide clear outputs for technicians. You will have the opportunity to work closely with Mechatronics and Test Engineers to integrate hardware interfaces and enhance the reliability and usability of our tools. Responsibilities Develop, improve, and maintain commissioning software tools (CLI/GUI/scripts) for device configuration and test sequences. Convert engineering procedures into robust, repeatable automation with input validation, guided steps, and recovery paths. Integrate with hardware interfaces such as serial/USB/Ethernet devices, networked controllers, sensors, and motor drives. Implement diagnostics and observability, including structured logs and automatic artifact collection. Enhance reliability and usability of tools through error handling, timeouts/retries, and intuitive UX. Collaborate with other engineers to define requirements and acceptance criteria, and execute against a prioritized backlog. Produce lightweight documentation including work instructions, quick-start guides, troubleshooting steps, and release notes. Essential Skills Strong Python skills and experience developing on Linux. Comfortable debugging across software, devices, and networks. Experience delivering internal tools for test, commissioning, deployment, field service, or manufacturing. Ability to quickly adapt, work onsite, and deliver outcomes with limited supervision. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with test frameworks, manufacturing/production test, commissioning, calibration, or field diagnostics. Experience with device communication protocols such as serial, TCP/UDP, REST, CAN, and Modbus. Familiarity with packaging/distribution (venv/poetry/pip), CI basics, and release workflows. Exposure to basic electrical/mechatronics concepts including connectors, sensors, and power-up sequencing. Work Environment The role involves working onsite with advanced technologies and equipment. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to innovate and drive the development of effective software solutions. A technician-first UX and an environment fostering teamwork and creativity are key aspects of our work culture. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Bedford, MA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $42.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
