Machine Vision Applications Engineer (Camera Optics)

Cambridge, MA

Posted October 02, 2026 Join an innovative AI and computer vision startup developing advanced inspection systems for manufacturing environments. This role is focused on designing, deploying, and optimizing industrial imaging systems that enable high-accuracy automated inspection on production lines. We're seeking a hands-on engineer with strong experience in machine vision, industrial cameras, optics, lighting, and camera calibration. You'll work directly with engineering, deployment, and customer teams to develop reliable image acquisition solutions from concept through production deployment. Responsibilities Define imaging requirements based on inspection objectives, defect sizes, field of view, working distance, and production-line conditions.

Select and configure industrial cameras, lenses, filters, lighting systems, and image acquisition hardware.

Develop and execute camera calibration and alignment procedures.

Evaluate image quality, focus, distortion, coverage, resolution, exposure, and motion blur.

Support multi-camera inspection systems and precision imaging applications.

Integrate imaging hardware with edge computing systems, triggers, encoders, and production equipment.

Troubleshoot image acquisition and calibration issues during pilot and production deployments.

Support customer installations, validation activities, and ongoing system optimization. Requirements 3+ years of machine vision, imaging systems, optical engineering, or related experience.

Hands-on experience deploying and calibrating industrial camera systems.

Strong understanding of optics, lenses, sensors, lighting, exposure, and image acquisition.

Experience selecting cameras and imaging components based on inspection requirements.

Ability to diagnose image quality issues in production environments.

Experience collaborating across software, mechanical, and field engineering teams.

AutoCAD experience preferred. Preferred Experience Basler, FLIR, Teledyne, Cognex, Keyence, or similar industrial imaging platforms.

Multi-camera inspection systems.

Manufacturing-line inspection and defect detection.
