Job Description

DevOps & Infrastructure Engineer - Level I Summary The DevOps Engineer supports and enhances SAU's networking and server infrastructure, cloud solutions and software delivery through configuration management, device management, (CI/CD) pipelines, and cloud platform administration. This position ensures systems are robust, scalable, and secure while fostering collaboration between enterprise services and operations teams. The DevOps & Infrastructure Engineer also participates in optimizing IT delivery, supports security initiatives, cost optimization and high availability of services. Position is in-person on the campus of Spring Arbor University.
Key Duties:
Incident Management - Provide incident response support for cloud application issues and troubleshoot production issues. Escalate incidents as necessary. Identify, troubleshoot and correct applications issues to maintain high availability of services. Reinforces SLAs to manage end-user expectations. Security - Maintain effective security controls and analyze current security requirements to reduce SAU security posture. Analyze current security requirements and make suggestions for improvements toward the goal of a zero-trust model. Documentation- Develop and maintain design, configuration items, and troubleshooting documentation and develop and document procedures and best practices. CI/CD Pipeline Management Develop, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI). Support build/test automation and continuous delivery practices. Cloud Platform Management Deploy, manage, and optimize cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP and Oracle), Monitor resource utilization and implement auto scaling and cost-control strategies. Monitoring & Incident Response - Implement system monitoring, alerting, and logging using various tools. Participate in incident resolution and post-incident reviews to improve system reliability. Security & Compliance Implement DevSecOps best practices including secrets management, access controls, and compliance monitoring. Ensure secure configuration of CI/CD pipelines, API Keys, containers, and infrastructure. Project Management, Collaboration and Infrastructure Support Assists in defining software development project plans, including scoping, scheduling, and implementation. Collaborates with other stakeholders in conceptualizing and developing and updating effective applications and applications. Enterprise Solution Support Support / Incident Management- Provide incident response support for break-fix issues and troubleshoot production issues. Escalate incidents as necessary. Identify, troubleshoot and correct applications issues to maintain high availability of services. Reinforces SLAs to manage end-user expectations and train SAU-IT Helpdesk to manage tier I and II service requests. Provide problem management reviews when necessary. Solution Maintenance - Be accountable for identification, implementation, testing and maintenance for cloud based solutions and on-prem applications and hosts. System Integrations - Manage data integrations between platforms and system; includes identity integration, data mapping between external systems, data flows, data quality and monitoring. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support system integration and connectivity needs. Security - Enforce security policies and procedures to protect application gateways (web, APIs) and data between systems. Documentation and Knowledge Management - Create and maintain documents that describe the processes, procedures, systems, and knowledge needed to support Other Duties & Work Conditions May be required to work some night and weekend hours to support upgrades or resolve an outage. On-call availability to support escalated incidents. Performs other duties as assigned to meet service objectives within IT. Reporting Responsibilities Reports to the Chief Information Officer.
Required:
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Proficiency in delivering customer service and working with non-technical users to resolve technical issues. Technical problem-solving skills and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Docker:
Proficient in containerization techniques, including creating and managing Docker images, optimizing Dockerfiles, and orchestrating containers to ensure consistent environments across development and production.
Proxmox :
Demonstrate a functional understanding of open-source server virtualization management, including the deployment and maintenance of virtual machines and containers, high-availability clustering, and integrated storage and network configuration to support Spring Arbor University's infrastructure. Artificial Intelligence Analytic skills for using spreadsheets to track issues, plan projects and perform a cost analysis. Baseline understanding of using AI for technical augmentation. Knowledge and working proficiency with one of the following programming languages: Java, Python, JavaScript, NodeJS, C# or GO. Working knowledge of cloud based services (AWS, Oracle, Azure, or Google Cloud). Exercises judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities. Baseline Linux/Unix skills. Baseline knowledge of SQL. Strong technical aptitude and ability to research & solve complex issues independently.
Desired:
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Experience with troubleshooting principles, methodologies, and issue resolution techniques. Solid working knowledge of current Internet technologies, including
HTML, HTTP, REST.
Web development experience. Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing protocols and VPN technologies. Hands-on experience developing test cases and test plans. SQL Relational database experience. Required Education and/or Experience Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field or related work experience as a Dev-Ops.
