9/80 schedule Position Overview We are seeking an experienced software professional with a passion for real-time, embedded software development to serve as a Software Lead within the Munitions organization . The Software Lead will provide technical leadership for software efforts across assigned contracts under the direction of the Munitions Software Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead. This individual will be responsible for the overall software execution of assigned contracts, overseeing both internal development activities and external software development performed by subcontractors, where applicable. This position is approximately 60% hands-on software design and development and 40% software technical project leadership . Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership & Execution Oversee the full software engineering lifecycle, including estimating, planning, requirements analysis, architecture, design, implementation, unit testing, hardware/software integration, and range testing. Evaluate software requirements for consistency with higher-level performance goals, customer needs, and contractual Statements of Work (SOWs). Coordinate with the Software Architect to ensure technical outcomes meet customer requirements and obtain necessary approvals from Functional Management. Lead collaborative problem-solving efforts and resolve conflicts between subsystems or disciplines to optimize system performance, quality, and cost. Ensure cybersecurity efforts are properly coordinated within the software domain. Project & Performance Management Monitor and control technical, cost, and schedule performance, implementing corrective actions as needed to keep projects on track. Oversee Control Accounts and Work Packages and provide periodic Estimates at Completion (EAC) to support Earned Value Management System (EVMS) reporting. Plan software project schedules and builds to align with overall product development timelines. Manage internal and external resources, coordinating with functional and project managers to identify and acquire necessary talent. Provide unbiased and constructive Performance and Development Review (PDR) input for assigned project personnel. Compliance, Quality & Safety Ensure project teams execute with appropriate rigor and in accordance with tailored Business Management System (BMS) procedures. Coordinate with Safety Engineering to ensure software safety efforts are accurately documented and the appropriate level of rigor is applied to safety-critical work products. Support the Software Verification Lead with test planning, environment design, and execution of test scripts and procedures. Ensure successful team support of Software Quality Assurance (SQA) and Software Configuration Management (SCM) audits. Stakeholder Engagement & Communication Plan and lead formal software development milestone reviews, including SRR, PDR, CDR, and TRR , with U.S. Government representatives. Proactively communicate risks, issues, and opportunities to the Software IPT Lead, Functional Manager, and Program Manager(s). Prepare and present project metrics and technical status during formal milestone reviews, technical interchange meetings, and IPT meetings. Maintain and enhance the organization's technical reputation with customers and industry partners. Required Skills Strong experience with object-oriented design and C++ embedded software development . Familiarity with Ethernet communications. Exceptional verbal and written communication and collaboration skills. Ability to effectively lead meetings, technical discussions, and presentations. Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance . Preferred Skills Experience with RTOS and/or bare-metal real-time application development . Working knowledge of cybersecurity, particularly: Risk Management Framework (RMF) Requirements and processes associated with obtaining and maintaining an Authority to Operate (ATO) Cybersecurity certification. Weapon system and/or combat vehicle subject matter expertise. Current Secret security clearance. Required Experience Minimum of 4 years of experience in real-time embedded software development and/or software testing. Minimum experience may be reduced to 2 years with a master's degree . Experience providing technical direction to a team of software developers. Practical knowledge and experience with applicable software engineering processes. Familiarity with Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) and Software Life Cycle Management. Working knowledge of Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and Control Account Manager (CAM)/Work Package Manager (WPM) responsibilities. Contemporary, hands-on software design and development experience. Required Education Bachelor's degree in a STEM field.
