Job Description

Job Description We are seeking a Senior Java Backend Engineer to join a high-impact team focused on cyber-crime defense and fraud management. This team develops and enhances applications that analyze transaction data, identify suspicious activity, and support fraud prevention through sophisticated rules engines and data relationships. In this role, you will serve as the primary developer responsible for implementing and enhancing a critical fraud detection platform. While the overall application architecture and design direction are established, you will play a key role in providing technical feedback, refining designs, and driving end-to-end implementation. This position is heavily backend-focused, with occasional integration work supporting frontend functionality. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who enjoys owning solutions from concept through deployment and thrives in a highly autonomous environment. All candidates have to go onsite 5 days a week at 1 of the following locations.

  • Washington, DC Responsibilities
  • Own the end-to-end implementation of a fraud detection and cyber-defense application.
  • Translate existing architectural designs and requirements into scalable, production-ready solutions.
  • Provide technical feedback and recommendations on application design and architecture.
  • Develop and maintain backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Build and optimize event-driven integrations utilizing Kafka.
  • Design and develop data models leveraging Graph Database technologies.

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience with Java.
  • 8+ years of strong experience developing enterprise applications using Spring Boot.
  • Experience building distributed systems and event-driven architectures utilizing Kafka.
  • Exposure to Graph Database technologies such as TigerGraph, Kinectic, Neo4j, or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling and relationship-based data structures.
  • Ability to independently own and deliver application features from design through deployment.
  • Experience developing REST APIs and backend services in a cloud or enterprise environment.
  • Experience within financial services, banking, payments, fintech, or other highly regulated industries.
Previous experience building fraud detection, risk management, cybersecurity, or transaction monitoring applications.
