Job Description
The Spectroscopy Application Engineer will play a vital role in the growing spectroscopy research & development team at Wasatch Photonics. By leading our spectral measurement, data analysis, and prototype design characterization efforts, the successful candidate will help drive our next generation products and OEM development projects. Wasatch Photonics exists to bring innovation to help solve real world problems through Raman, OCT, and NIR and fluorescence spectroscopy, and this new position is created to fuel this mission. This person will be learning and supporting a range of different applications including but not limited to bio-medical assays, food analysis, industrial process control, environmental monitoring, agricultural testing, and contaminant testing. Ideal candidates will be excited at the prospect of applying their background in the physics, math and chemistry underlying spectroscopy while working in a fast-paced development environment and learning more about the opto-mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing aspects of modern instrument design.

Generate reports on measured system performance including data visualization, technical analysis and recommendations on how to improve results toward key metrics Serve as project engineer on OEM development efforts, helping bring customer inspired technical solutions to fruition Interface with multi-disciplinary teams and communicate with technical experts in optics, electrical design, software algorithms and volume manufacturing Lead the development, refinement and execution of optical system test plans Contribute to commercial and OEM product specification development Collaborate with manufacturing engineering and production teams on quality control procedures, metrics, and analysis Required Experience 3-5 years' experience in laboratory or industry work related to spectroscopic, optical, or chemical measurement and analysis Experience defining and following laboratory or manufacturing processes & procedures Preferred Experience Experience with spectroscopy, including Raman, absorbance, and fluorescence Experience with laser systems and an understanding of laser safety requirements Experience with chemical handling and safety (MSDS) Experience with optical breadboards and optical benches Education/Skills MS or PhD in chemistry, physics, optics, or related field Strong skills with Excel and comparable data analysis packages Strong communication skills and positive attitude to work with engineering, manufacturing, and business teams towards success of products Strong organizational skills and capability of generating necessary written documentation Self-motivated to work on multiple development projects simultaneously Company Benefits Overview Healthcare, vision and dental coverage for employee and family 401(k) investment fund with employer matching Participation in target-based annual bonus plan Optional 9/80 workday schedule with flexible hours Tuition reimbursement for approved degree programs About Wasatch Photonics We are a fast-growing company with several market-leading products with optics at its core.
