Job Description

Senior M365 Engineer Role Summary
  • This role serves as the Level 3 Messaging Engineer for the Collaboration Team and is the primary Exchange (Online and On-Prem) engineering and architecture subject matter expert.
  • The engineer provides architectural direction, design, and implementation leadership for a hybrid enterprise messaging ecosystem, including Exchange Online/On-Prem, IronPort, Teams, M365/Entra ID identity integrations, mobile device management, messaging security controls, and Microsoft 365 Copilot integration.
  • This role requires 2 days/week on-site in Owings Mills, MD.
Responsibilities:
  • Leads Level 3 incident response for messaging and collaboration services, rapidly restoring service while driving root cause analysis, corrective actions, and prevention of recurrence.
  • Drives modernization initiatives such as IronPort/secure email gateway upgrades, hybrid Exchange configuration and migration, SharePoint and OneDrive migration, and mobile device management (MDM) strategy enhancements.
  • Shape's identity, provisioning, and directory synchronization models in partnership with Identity Services, addressing hybrid dependencies (AD/Entra ID).
  • Designs and automates enterprise Microsoft Teams policies and messaging security controls (DLP, sensitivity labeling, anti-phishing/anti-malware).
  • Plans and executes vulnerability response, security updates, and patch sequencing for hybrid Exchange environments, including pre-production validation, change control, rollback planning, and coordination with Security/Infrastructure teams.
  • Guides enterprise messaging and collaboration architecture for platform integrations (ex: Salesforce, Outlook scheduling) including authentication / authorization patterns, mail flow/connectors, and Microsoft 365 Copilot readiness.
  • Oversees analysis of health, performance, and capacity trends (telemetry, logs, and user experience signals).
  • Leads roadmap planning to ensure long-term health, resiliency, and compliance of communication systems.
Qualifications
Required:
  • BS degree (or equivalent experience) and 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Requires in-depth expertise in infrastructure operations and messaging platforms.
  • Deep understanding of Microsoft Exchange (on-prem and online), IronPort, Microsoft Teams, M365/Entra ID, mobile device management, and messaging security controls.
  • Familiarity with architectural oversight and modernization strategies for communication systems.
  • Root cause analysis skills for investigating incidents impacting technology availability.
Preferred:
  • SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business administration, including migration planning/execution, governance, and user experience troubleshooting.
  • Microsoft Teams platform administration at scale.
  • Experience operationalizing Microsoft 365 Copilot for collaboration scenarios.
  • Automation and scripting for M365 administration (PowerShell, Graph) to standardize configuration, reporting, and policy enforcement.

  • $148,000.00 for the location of: Maryland, Colorado, Washington and remote workers $95,500.00
  • $163,000.00 for the location of: Washington, D.C. $108,000.00
  • $185,000.
00 for the location of: New York, California Placement within the range provided above is based on the individual's relevant experience and skills for the role. Base salary is only one component of our total compensation package. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, which is determined upon company and individual performance.
