SUMMARY As a Firefly System Configuration Engineer, you will be the key focal point for vehicle level configuration management of Firefly products. You will own top-level integrated CAD, and oversee all changes made to your assigned vehicle while owning milestone schedules. You will be responsible for maintaining configuration traceability across internal software suites. You will work with responsible design, manufacturing, and integration engineers, and dive deep into problems and processes across multiple engineering disciplines. It will be your job to translate programmatic change into actionable items and deliverables.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Own configuration management for your vehicle, maintaining traceability between appropriate revisions of hardware assemblies, software, and test plans. Own the vehicle-level CAD integration, assembly hierarchy and assembly drawings. Serve as a reviewer and approver for all lower-level assembly drawings. Work directly with subsystem design leads to ensure complete & accurate metadata (materials, etc). Work with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure the CAD is integrated with GSE designs, and publish vehicle test configurations for test plan and procedure authoring. Own the Mass Growth Allowance process throughout the vehicle lifecycle, as well as vehicle mass properties predictions and verification plans. Administer the change review board, ensure all changes are properly documented before closure, and traceable to the appropriate configuration. Drive the release of all CDR deliverables ahead of the design freeze for each vehicle. Drive continual improvement to Firefly system design and manufacturing policies and practices, leading lessons learned, providing to and implementing feedback from design engineering teams.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required BS in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline required 3+ years of focused hands-on experience with CAD design and complex assembly management, equivalent mechanical work will be considered. Expert in GD&T, design for manufacturing, and design for assembly. Strong working knowledge of fabrication and assembly methodologies, production management tools, and quality control processes. Exceptional comprehension of first principles in the following engineering disciplines; mechanical, structural dynamics, materials, electrical, mechatronics, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, orbital mechanics, controls, and propulsion. Amenable to travel and schedule flexibility leading up to program milestone Good communication with all position levels within the company Exceptional public speaking and presentation skills Desired MS in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical field Experience scripting languages and process automation Experienced on Agile Project Management using Atlassian tools (JIRA, confluence, bitbucket) Strong working knowledge of ASME, MIL, ASTM, and/or NASA Standards, as well as Systems Engineering best practices - able to adapt processes to meet the needs of the team Experience tailoring the
