POSITION SUMMARY
At National Life Group, we are modernizing our business and evolving our customer experience through digital-first technology solutions. Our technology teams play a critical role in building, enhancing, and supporting the applications and platforms that enable our customers, agents, and employees to do business more effectively. The IT Applications Development Intern will work within our Inforce Applications team and partner with developers, business analysts, product owners, and other technology professionals to develop, enhance, test, and support business applications. Depending on project needs, the intern may contribute to application development, system integrations, troubleshooting, production support, automation, and technical documentation. This role provides hands-on exposure to enterprise application development and support within a large-scale technology environment. The intern will work with stakeholder teams across National Life Group in an Agile environment, gain experience with modern development practices and tools, and participate in the full application lifecycle—from requirements and design through development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support. The ideal candidate is curious, analytical, and interested in applying software development and problem-solving skills to real business challenges while gaining practical experience working with enterprise technology platforms. This position currently offers an onsite work schedule, with the expectation that you will be in the office four (4) days per week during onsite core days. Our current onsite core days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The work schedule type and core days are subject to change with advance notification and manager discretion.RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teammates to document and analyze digital customer experiences. You will develop metrics, reporting, visualization, analysis, and recommendations that help program leaders guide strategy and change initiatives. Work with technical teams to develop and support web applications, APIs, and solutions for internal and external users. Build and enhance applications using technologies such as Angular, Java, REST APIs, and cloud-based platforms. Participate in Agile/Scrum meetings and work with the team to deliver assigned development and support tasks. Use DevOps tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, SonarQube, and JFrog to support code management, testing, and automated deployments. Use approved AI tools for coding, research, troubleshooting, and documentation, including basic prompt engineering and validation of AI-generated results.QUALIFICATIONS
Currently enrolled in a degree program related to Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, or a similar technical field. Enthusiastic, curious, and eager to learn new technologies. Strong communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. Basic understanding of software development concepts, web applications, APIs, or programming. Exposure to technologies such as Angular, Java, GitHub, DevOps tools, or cloud platforms is a plus. Familiarity with AI tools, prompt engineering, or using AI to support coding and troubleshooting is a plus. Previous coursework, personal projects, internships, or hands-on technical experience is a plus. AI Proficiency Expectations At National Life Group, we view AI as an enabler of human potential.
