Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Technical Applications Engineer sits within the Inside Sales team and reports to the Inside Sales Manager. The job on the inside is to make our reps fast, informed, and hard to beat — and you're the technical backbone of that effort, supporting independent sales reps and the consulting engineers who specify our products by combining real HVAC product knowledge with quotation development and proactive follow-up. On any given day you might be reviewing plans and specs, configuring a product to fit a project, helping a consulting engineer with a selection question, or following up with a rep to understand where an opportunity stands and what it will take to win it. The work is fast-moving, priorities shift, and multiple projects move at once. Roughly speaking, it runs about 70% quotation development and 30% technical support, though the mix shifts with the queue.
What this role is not:
it is not a product design, R&D, CAD, or system-design position, and it is not a quota-carrying outside-sales job. You're not designing new products or hunting accounts — you're applying KEES's existing product line to real projects and helping reps win them. The lighter, faster-moving coordination work — routine quotes and questions — is handled by our Inside Sales Coordinator. This role owns the technically demanding end and is where the Coordinator escalates the harder questions. KEES supports the role with modern tools: NetSuite for order and quote management, HubSpot for CRM and outreach, a SuiteCommerce platform that increasingly lets reps self-generate the simpler quotes, and agentic AI that surfaces product recommendations and finds additional quoting opportunities in plans and specs — freeing you to focus on the work that needs a human expert
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Help reps win projects Be a trusted technical resource for independent sales reps across North America Help with product selection, application questions, and project-specific requirements Recommend product configurations and alternative solutions that align with project objectives Help reps position KEES products effectively, and build strong relationships by being responsive and genuinely knowledgeable Support consulting engineers Answer product-related questions from consulting engineers Assist with product selection and application guidance Provide the information that supports clean specification development and proper product application Develop quotations and solutions Review plans, specifications, schedules, and project documentation Prepare accurate, timely quotations for HVAC air-side products Configure products to meet project requirements, coordinating with internal teams so quotes reflect what KEES can actually build Manage many active quotations and opportunities at once Manage opportunities proactively Follow up on significant quotes and opportunities Ask probing questions about project status, competitive position, and the factors driving the decision Look for ways to improve KEES's odds of securing the award Keep project, customer, and opportunity data current in HubSpot and NetSuite Solve technical problems Interpret plans, specifications, and application requirements Resolve questions about product application and configuration Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, and Sales on the harder challenges
QUALIFICATIONS
As with everyone on this team, it starts with curiosity — wanting to understand the project, the application, and what the customer is really trying to accomplish. The difference in this role is technical depth: strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to read plans, specs, and schedules and turn them into the right product configuration.
Beyond that:
Ability to interpret technical documentation and translate it into solutions Excellent written and verbal communication Strong attention to detail and sound judgment The organization to manage many projects, quotes, and deadlines at once A customer-focused mindset and a real desire to help reps and engineers succeed Comfort with CRM, ERP, and business software (you'll live in NetSuite and HubSpot) Backgrounds that tend to fit well: HVAC applications support or applications engineering at a rep firm or manufacturer; HVAC inside sales, quotations, or technical sales support; or estimating and project engineering on the mechanical-contracting side. Experience supporting reps and consulting engineers is a strong plus.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred. Relevant HVAC applications, technical-sales-support, quotation, or industry experience will be strongly considered in lieu of an engineering degree — in our experience, an applications professional who knows HVAC cold is often a stronger fit than a degreed engineer without industry exposure. 3 years in the HVAC industry as an engineer or sales Rep (preferred) Extensive understanding of mechanical processes and cost estimating
