The Portfolio Manager is responsible for the strategic planning, governance, execution oversight, and business value realization of a diverse portfolio of applications supporting Rx Consumer Engineering. This leader serves as the primary point of coordination across technology and business stakeholders to ensure investments align with enterprise strategy, customer needs, regulatory requirements, and organizational objectives. The role provides portfolio-level leadership across multiple products, platforms, and delivery teams, balancing innovation, modernization, and operational stability. This leader anticipates business and technology needs, influences executive decision making, coordinates portfolio strategies, and drives measurable outcomes across a complex ecosystem of applications and services. You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely • from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week. Primary Responsibilities Portfolio Strategy & Governance Develop and maintain a comprehensive portfolio strategy that aligns Rx Consumer Engineering investments with business priorities and enterprise technology objectives Establish portfolio governance processes, prioritization frameworks, investment reviews, and executive reporting mechanisms Drive portfolio planning activities, including annual planning, quarterly business reviews, roadmap development, and capacity management Partner with business and technology leaders to align strategic initiatives, modernization efforts, and operational investments Identify opportunities to simplify application landscapes, reduce technical debt, improve capabilities, and optimize business outcomes Delivery & Execution Leadership Oversee execution of multiple programs, initiatives, and application investments across the portfolio Ensure delivery teams achieve committed outcomes while balancing scope, schedule, quality, risk, and budget objectives Establish and monitor portfolio-level delivery metrics, health indicators, and performance measures Facilitate executive-level decision making and remove barriers that may impact successful delivery Drive cross-functional coordination among engineering, product, architecture, infrastructure, security, and operations teams Risk, Compliance & Operational Excellence Establish portfolio-level risk management practices and ensure mitigation strategies are implemented across programs and applications Anticipate organizational, operational, technical, regulatory, security, and delivery risks before they impact business outcomes Ensure portfolio compliance with enterprise security standards, healthcare regulations, audit requirements, and technology policies Drive operational excellence through performance monitoring, reliability improvements, and continuous process enhancement Lead portfolio response and escalation activities for significant delivery, operational, or business risks Executive Stakeholder Management Build trusted relationships with senior business and technology leaders Translate complex technical and operational concepts into executive-level business discussions Influence strategic decisions across organizational boundaries and competing priorities Prepare executive presentations, portfolio health assessments, investment recommendations, and business updates Serve as a thought partner to leadership regarding portfolio direction, organizational readiness, and change management Leadership & Talent Development Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship across portfolio management, program management, and delivery teams Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, customer focus, quality, and continuous improvement Develop organizational capabilities related to portfolio governance, delivery management, and strategic planning Lead through influence across matrixed teams and organizational structures Foster innovation while maintaining focus on operational excellence and delivery commitments You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience 10+ years of experience in technology portfolio, program, project, or product management 5+ years of leadership experience managing large, complex technology portfolios and strategic initiatives Experience supporting large-scale digital, consumer-facing, healthcare, pharmacy, or enterprise technology environments Demonstrated success managing multimillion-dollar technology investments and budgets Experience presenting to executive leadership and influencing strategic business decisions Proven solid financial, operational, risk management, and governance expertise Preferred Qualifications Portfolio management certifications (PfMP, PgMP, PMP, SAFe, Lean Portfolio Management, or equivalent) Healthcare, Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM), digital consumer experience, or regulated-industry experience Experience leading application modernization, cloud transformation, or platform rationalization efforts Experience working within large matrixed organizations All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $134,600 to $230,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
