Manager, Engineering Blue Shield of CA United States, Ohio, Columbus Aug 25, 2026 Your Role The Manager, Engineering oversees a team responsible for designing and delivering complex services, integrations, cloud-native applications, and enterprise technology capabilities. This leader ensures teams have the strategy, structure, talent, standards, and execution discipline needed to deliver secure, scalable, reliable, and maintainable solutions. Managers are expected to be strong people and execution leaders with enough technical depth to guide major decisions, resolve complex risks, improve engineering practices, and support modernization efforts. This role partners across Product, Architecture, Security, Platform, Infrastructure, business, vendor, and senior leadership teams to align priorities, remove obstacles, and drive outcomes that support Stellarus' mission and evolving technology strategy. Your Knowledge and Experience Bachelor's degree or High School Diploma/GED and 4 years of additional relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
7 years of experience in software engineering, full stack development, platform engineering, technical delivery, infrastructure engineering, or related technology disciplines.
2 years of prior management, team leadership, supervisor, project/program management, or equivalent people leadership experience.
Strong understanding of Agile delivery models, backlog management, technical scope management, risk management, prioritization, coaching, and delegation.
Technical fluency across modern engineering practices such as cloud-native development, APIs, CI/CD, version control, secure development, system integrations, data models, and maintainable code.
Familiarity with modern front-end frameworks, backend services, APIs, SQL and/or NoSQL databases, RESTful integrations, cloud platforms, containerization, Infrastructure as Code, and AI-assisted coding tools preferred.
Ability to collaborate effectively with Product, Design, QA, Security, Platform, Architecture, vendor, and business teams.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience operating in regulated, healthcare, enterprise, or complex technology environments preferred. Hybrid This role requires employees to be in-office based on our hybrid workplace model, balancing purposeful in-person collaboration with flexibility. For most teams, this means coming into the office two days each week. Employees living more than 50 miles from an office location will work with their manager to determine in-office time based on business need.
