This role goes beyond simply following predefined test cases. We are looking for someone who can understand how an entire system is supposed to work, think through real-world scenarios, identify failures and edge cases, reproduce problems, and clearly communicate findings to the engineering team. The Test Engineer will work closely with hardware, firmware, and software developers to improve product quality and reliability from prototype through production. We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic, high sense of ownership, attention to detail, and consistent follow-through. The right person takes responsibility for assigned work, investigates problems thoroughly, and follows issues through resolution. Key Responsibilities Develop and execute test plans, test cases, validation plans, and system-level test scenarios. Test electronic hardware, PCB assemblies, prototypes, sensors, gateways, and embedded devices. Test embedded firmware and verify device behavior, inputs, outputs, communications, operating states, and recovery conditions. Perform functional testing, system testing, integration testing, regression testing, validation testing, and acceptance testing. Perform end-to-end testing across hardware, firmware, wireless communications, APIs, cloud platforms, and web applications. Develop real-world test scenarios beyond basic pass/fail testing. Test edge cases and failure conditions including: Power cycles Communication interruptions Network loss Invalid inputs Sensor failures Low-voltage conditions Device recovery behavior Identify, reproduce, document, and report bugs with clear evidence and repeatable steps. Work directly with developers to troubleshoot failures and isolate problems. Verify engineering fixes and perform regression testing. Build and maintain test harnesses, test fixtures, scripts, and automated testing tools. Use Python or other scripting languages to communicate with devices, automate testing, generate test data, and validate results. Perform API testing and system-to-system interface validation. Analyze logs, telemetry, test data, and device behavior to identify failures and patterns. Improve test coverage and identify gaps in existing validation processes. Participate in design reviews and provide input related to testability, reliability, and product quality. Maintain clear test documentation, test results, validation records, and bug reports. Use AI tools effectively for troubleshooting, scripting, test-case development, documentation, and analysis. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field. Basic understanding of electronics, including voltage, current, analog and digital signals, circuit boards, sensors, and common interfaces. Comfortable working directly with electronic hardware, development boards, PCBs, and embedded devices. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to understand how hardware, firmware, communications, APIs, and software work together as a complete system. Strong attention to detail. Ability to clearly document defects, test results, and technical findings. Ability to communicate effectively with hardware, firmware, and software developers. Strong work ethic and personal accountability. Ability to manage priorities and follow assigned work through completion. Willingness to work hands-on rather than only managing test documentation. Must be a U.S. Citizen. Preferred Skills Experience with any of the following is a plus: Python JavaScript / TypeScript Test automation Automated testing frameworks API testing REST APIs Postman Git / GitHub Embedded systems Firmware testing Hardware testing PCB testing IoT systems BLE / Bluetooth Low Energy LoRaWAN Cellular / LTE-M / NB-IoT

When given a product, this person should naturally ask: "How is this entire system supposed to work, what could go wrong, and how can I prove that every part is working correctly?" We want someone who is not satisfied with simply identifying a failure. The right person will gather evidence, reproduce the issue, help isolate the problem, communicate clearly with engineering, verify the fix, and make sure the issue does not return. About Viaanix Viaanix develops and manufactures Industrial IoT and connected hardware solutions, including wireless sensors, asset-tracking devices, gateways, embedded electronics, and cloud software platforms. This position provides the opportunity to work across the complete product stack and help improve the quality and reliability of real-world connected systems.
