Summary:

The Test Engineer will interface with Project Management, Application Development, and leadership. This position is responsible for ensuring that all testing work items are delivered in a quality manner. This includes delivery without critical defects, in accordance with the schedule, with the highest degree of accuracy and quality. This position plans and executes required testing for systems and applications, while collaborating with team members on test plans, test case creation and execution.

Essential Accountabilities:

Level I

  • \tDevelops and maintains business domain subject matter expertise of a given Product Family, to assist with the design and creation of the testing scope and test plan for any incoming project work within the Product Family.
  • \tAnalyzes requirements and technical specifications to build appropriate test cases and find or create appropriate test data.
  • \tConducts test case reviews with the agile team to ensure proper coverage of the requirements.
  • \tDocuments, administers, and executes manual and automated (where appropriate) test cases, test procedures/scripts, per the test scope/plan, for all testing types and functions.
  • \tWorks with Test Automation Engineer(s) to define what aspects of testing should be automated and provides the test cases for them to code in an automation tool.
  • \tEnsures test results are accurately recorded in the appropriate tool.
  • \tInterprets, analyzes, and communicates test results to agile teams, stakeholders and management in a clear, consistent, and timely manner.
  • \tCreates defects for issues found during testing.
  • \tProvides detailed information on recreation steps, environment found, components impacted, error logs, test data utilized, etc.
  • \tMonitors defects and assist developers or other team members with triage.
  • \tAttends team agile meetings and product/project related functions as required.
  • \tCollaborates with agile team to meet the overall sprint and milestone goals and deliverables.
  • \tRaises risks or issues to the agile team or others as appropriate, to maintain transparency and proactively help the team's find resolutions.

  • \tRecommends opportunities for productivity and process improvements.
  • \tScopes and plans all testing efforts.
  • \tWorks on multiple projects, while ensuring testing activities are completed on time.
  • \tStays current on new tools and technologies, continuously looking for opportunities to improve.
  • \tMentors less experienced testers in specific business knowledge areas and/or testing techniques. Level III (in addition to Level II Accountabilities)
  • \tImplements recommended productivity and process improvements such as: o\tImplementing advanced testing techniques o\tMetric tracking o\tIdentifying automation opportunities
  • \tActs as a subject matter expert with testing methodologies.
  • \tDevelops, defines, and implements test standards and guidelines. Level IV (in addition to Level III Accountabilities)
  • \tLeads and owns the efforts to define the testing strategies, scope, and plans for multiple projects within a product family portfolio.

This includes but is not limited to: o\tDefining types of testing needed. o\tReviewing test environment dependencies, limitations. o\tDefining what test data will be required (high level). o\tCoordinating testing that might span multiple teams or projects (managing dependencies). o\tEnsuring test cases are properly written, structured, organized and updated, per the agile standards.

  • \tAttends core team meetings as a lead representative, providing testing and defect progress updates, in addition to risk and mitigation information.
  • \tActs as a representative for the testing organization, sharing project status, resolving barriers to testing progress, and raising any risks or issues with projects.
  • \tAssists other testing team members, as required, to help ensure the success of a project or release.
  • \tOnboards new testers into an assigned agile team. This includes, but is not limited to; o\tFamiliarizing new team members with the day-to-day tasks, responsibilities and deliverables. o\tProviding step by step procedures for testers to follow to configure their testing environments, tools, etc.
  • \tRecommends and implements opportunities for productivity and process improvements. Level V (in addition to Level IV Accountabilities)
  • \tReviews the quality metrics dashboards and follow up with teams on any findings.
  • \tCollaborates with the automation engineers to review the test automation implementation across the product family portfolio, monitoring for the following: o\tRequirements coverage. o\tTesting code quality and stability. o\tCadence of runs against development deployments. o\tStatus of the automation backlog
  • \tMonitors/tracks third-party issues that need resolution outside the scope of an agile team's product/project.
  • \tMonitors/coordinates the UAT test cycles across agile teams.
  • \tEnsures test reporting metrics are accurate and delivered to the project teams in a timely manner including: o\tTests artifacts such as what code is being installed. o\tBug reports. o\tTest execution results.
  • \tLeader of a testing/quality community of practice within a product family to foster a culture of open communication and new ideas.
  • \tRecommends test solutions and strategies to senior management and the architecture council.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • \tAssociates degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field. In lieu of degree three (3) cumulative years of related technical, domain experience or related experience required.
  • \tBasic knowledge of: o\tTesting methodologies (black box, white box, regression, etc.) o\tBusiness requirements and use cases. o\tDatabases, APIs, mobile, windows, web applications o\tTest cases, procedures, and test scripts Level II (in addition to Level I Qualifications)
  • \tThree (3) years of related work experience.
  • \tDemonstrated experience working directly with business users.
  • \tExperience with testing at various levels (functional, integration, system, load, and performance testing).
  • \tExperience working with iterative, waterfall, and agile methodologies.
  • \tDemonstrated experience in executing/administering test automation.
  • \tDemonstrated ability to work on complex projects and multiple project testing efforts concurrently.
  • \tAbility to understand and write complex data driven test scenarios, workflow testing, user stories, and behavior driven development. Level III (in addition to Level II Qualifications)
  • \tSix (6) years of related work experience.
  • \tAbility to manage large and/or multiple project testing efforts simultaneously.
  • \tDemonstrated ability to identify root cause problems and determine innovative sources for solutions and opportunities.
  • \tDemonstrated ability to drive complex testing solutions to completion. Level IV (in addition to Level III Qualifications)
  • \tEight (8) years of related work experience. A combination of experience, advanced degree or certifications may be considered.
  • \tDemonstrated experience leading a scrum team to improve software testing. methodologies, technologies, and techniques.
  • \tPractical knowledge and experience in all phases of the SDLC.
  • \tWorking knowledge of automated, load and performance testing.
  • \tExperience creating and updating software tester onboarding documentation, testing process and procedure documents. Level V (in addition to Level IV Qualifications)
  • \tTen (10) years of related work experience. A combination of experience, advanced degree or certifications may be considered.
  • \tDemonstrated experience simultaneously leading multiple scrum teams to improve software testing methodologies, technologies, and techniques.
  • \tDemonstrated experience compiling and reporting test results, metrics and issues to senior management.
  • \tDemonstrated experience working with automation development engineers to ensure requirements coverage, automation test quality and planning test automation execution.
  • \tDemonstrated experience working with third party vendors to track issues and resolve in a timely manner.
Physical Requirements:
  • \tAbility to complete work in a traditional office environment under fluorescent lighting.
  • \tAbility to orally communicate.
  • \tMust be able to function while sitting at a desk viewing a computer and using a keyboard and mouse for three (3) or more hours at a time.
  • \tMust be able to travel across the enterprise.
  • \tAbility to work in a home office for continuous periods of time for business continuity.
