Senior Mathematical Statistician - MINT Sky Tech Services Baltimore, MD Job Details Full-time $140,000 a year 23 hours ago Qualifications Statistics Statistics SAS Project planning R Collaborating with government agencies SAS language Master's degree Bachelor's degree Business requirements Statistical analysis tools Full Job Description We are seeking a skilled Senior Mathematical Statistician to provide technical and analytical support to the Social Security Administration (SSA) Reporting and Program Analysis (RAPA) division for the Modeling Income in the Near Term (MINT) microsimulation model. MINT is one of SSA's key tools used by the White House, Congressional staff, Presidential commissions on Social Security, and SSA executives to estimate the future distributional effects of Social Security policies on beneficiary populations through the end of the century. This role applies advanced statistical and SAS programming expertise to enhance MINT's responsiveness, modernize its codebase, and incorporate behavioral responses to policy changes that mitigate current model limitations.

None required; advanced degree in Statistics, Mathematics, or related field preferred Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Provide senior-level mathematical statistician support to the MINT microsimulation model in support of SSA's RAPA division.
- Examine post-process benefit calculation code and recommend approaches to better integrate it with the retirement/claiming module within the model (high priority).
- Modernize MINT code to reduce processing time and improve overall model responsiveness.
- Remove hard-coded inputs and migrate functions to a front-end interface where possible so that policy and parameter changes can be made without substantial programming.
- Restructure MINT code and data to improve usability and maintainability for analysts and stakeholders.
- Analyze post-process benefit and analysis code and workflows and recommend improvements to make them more user friendly.
- Explore whether advanced analytic tools and methods could improve projection techniques and validation steps within the model.
- Incorporate behavioral responses to policy changes to mitigate current MINT model limitations related to fixed behaviors based on current law.
- Translate business requirements from SSA stakeholders into technical requirements and SAS code implementations.
- Develop and deliver analytical comparisons, technical recommendations, and supporting documentation for SSA leadership and policy stakeholders.
- Collaborate with SSA economists, statisticians, and program analysts to ensure model enhancements align with policy analysis needs.
- Prepare technical reports, analysis findings, and presentations communicating model results and recommendations to Government stakeholders. Basic Qualifications - Required Education, Certifications, Skills, and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or related quantitative field
- Master's or higher degree in a quantitative field may substitute for years of experience
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in statistical modeling, microsimulation, or quantitative policy analysis
- Demonstrated experience using SAS statistical tools, including SAS Enterprise Guide
- Experience translating business requirements into technical requirements and SAS code (required)
- Experience conducting statistical studies and developing statistical models based on user requirements
- Familiarity with microsimulation models, retirement/benefit projection methodologies, or Social Security program data preferred
- Experience with Census SIPP data or similar large-scale survey datasets preferred
- Knowledge of R, Python, or other statistical programming languages is a plus
- Proficient in project planning and management with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and effective technical writing ability
- Ability to work effectively with technical teams, policy analysts, and Government stakeholders
- Proactive self-starter able to work independently and collaboratively
