Job Description

Gertens is a family-owned business and one of the largest garden centers and greenhouse operations in the Midwest. Our IT team supports a diverse technology environment that includes retail operations, greenhouse production, logistics, finance, and corporate systems. If you enjoy building computers, troubleshooting hardware, solving technical problems, and learning how technology supports a complex business, this internship is for you.

January 2027 - June 2027
Schedule:
Up to 40 hours/week What You'll Do As an IT Hardware & Systems Intern, you will gain hands-on experience supporting the technology infrastructure that powers our business.
Responsibilities may include:
Build, configure, image, and deploy desktop and laptop computers Perform hardware upgrades, repairs, and troubleshooting Install and configure peripherals, printers, and mobile devices Assist with network, workstation, and system support activities Provide technical support and guidance to end users Participate in IT projects such as asset management, monitoring dashboards, documentation improvements, or process automation Assist with inventory tracking and hardware lifecycle management Complete an individual project designed to showcase your technical and problem-solving skills What We're Looking For Pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Cybersecurity, or a related field Junior or Senior standing preferred Hands-on experience building, repairing, upgrading, or deploying desktop and laptop computers Familiarity with Windows operating systems and basic networking concepts Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Excellent communication and customer service skills Self-motivated, curious, and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment What You'll Gain Real-world experience supporting enterprise technology systems Exposure to networking, hardware, systems administration, and IT operations Mentorship from experienced IT professionals Opportunities to participate in meaningful business projects Experience working in a collaborative and professional IT environment
