Role Leads, Reporting & Development:

This role is designed to prepare you for full vCIO responsibility within approximately 12-18 months , based on demonstrated readiness and leadership development. This position reports to Matthew McCanne, CISO and head of the Strategy & Standards department. You will also receive direct mentorship from Matt Harvey, owner and current vCIO, including client-meeting exposure, recommendation review, strategic-planning experience, and progressively greater client responsibility. As you develop, you will take increasing ownership of: Executive client relationships Strategic technology roadmaps and budgets Risk and business continuity planning Technology investment and lifecycle strategy Strategic meeting leadership Independent vCIO client responsibility Improvements to our vCIO processes This role is for someone who already knows how to engage executives, ask strong questions, uncover what really matters, and turn complex information into clear business recommendations. Success in this role comes from understanding the client's business, identifying the right path forward, building confidence in your recommendations, and earning the trust required to become a valued advisor.

What You WILL Do:

Preparation:

Prepare for strategic client meetings and ensure decisions translate into clear actions with strong follow-through Translate technical findings from our Proactive IT team into clear business recommendations, investment priorities, and strategic initiatives Help develop technology roadmaps, budgets, lifecycle plans, risk assessments, and executive reports

Client Meetings:

Lead and participate in strategic discovery conversations with client business owners and senior leaders Uncover business risks, challenges, and opportunities that shape technology decisions Respectfully challenge assumptions when proposed solutions do not align with the client's goals or priorities Consistently learn, apply, and help refine Stepping Forward Technology's consulting methodology

Post-Meeting Activities:

Maintain strategic continuity by tracking key priorities, decisions, commitments, and progress between client meetings Stay informed on projects, risks, and issues that could affect the client's technology strategy or business objectives Advocate for the client internally to ensure delivery, recommendations, and executions align with agreed strategic direction Ensure strategic recommendations move forward by confirming ownership, follow-up, and next steps

What You Will NOT Do:

Carry a quota, chase commission, or own a sales pipeline Work at a help desk or manage a ticket queue Design network architecture or serve as an implementation engineer

Strong Technology Strategy Consultant:

3+ years of relevant professional experience in consulting, business analysis, professional services, solutions consulting, technology, or another executive-facing advisory environment A track record of leading discoveries, uncovering meaningful insights, and translating them into actionable recommendations The credibility, composure, and communication skills to engage client business owners and senior executives Strong business judgment and an understanding of financial, operational, and strategic tradeoffs The ability to listen carefully, synthesize complex information, and communicate what matters, why it matters, and what should happen next The ability to build trust and develop strong relationships with clients and internal teams Curiosity, humility, coachability, and the willingness to be shadowed, challenged, and corrected while learning our approach Strong ownership, organization, process discipline, and follow-through Practical technology fluency: enough familiarity with business technology to confidently follow technical conversations, ask intelligent questions, recognize business implications, and learn unfamiliar concepts quickly Possess a valid Driver's License and have reliable transportation (mileage reimbursement) Bonus Points if you have: A bachelor's degree MSP or vCIO experience Ready to take your career to the next level?
