56482BR Supervisor Staff Software Developer General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Poway California Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems. This position serves as a team lead and provides day-to-day guidance and coordination for a small group of Engineers/Developers engaged in designing, developing and/or modifying end-user, system level, and data management software applications to achieve established project objectives. This position works closely with the frontline supervisor to execute plans and will lead the team through the requirements, design, development, integration, and test phases with a primary focus on tactical execution of work assignments and adherence to established processes.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with users and the frontline supervisor to determine and clarify user requirements and specifications within assigned tasks and projects. Software development includes end-user, system level, and data management applications. Assist in planning software development activities by breaking down higher-level plans into specific tasks and work packages for the team. Lead and participate in the implementation of design including coding, testing, and documentation to meet defined schedules and quality requirements. Support deployment of applications across the enterprise including cross-platform compliance and coordinating availability of necessary resources with other groups. Perform and oversee code maintenance activities including debugging and updating to keep pace with the evolving environment and user needs. Provide input to plans for future applications based on new developments in computer technology and observations from current work. Communicate routinely with the software developer group, with users, and with management as appropriate to report status, issues, and risks for assigned work. Provide daily direction and guidance to assigned staff, including task assignment, monitoring progress, and helping resolve technical issues. Assist in training and mentoring team members, sharing best practices and supporting skill development. Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information. Performs other duties as assigned or required. Job Qualifications Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in computer science, information system or related discipline and progressive software development experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, seven or more years of experience with a masters degree, or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education. Demonstrated fluency in developing software using Python and Python-based big data analysis libraries in Linux based environments. Must have a solid understanding of software development concepts, principles, and theory and proven ability to follow and apply use of programming and analysis concepts. Experience serving as a technical lead or informal lead on software development tasks or small projects is desirable. Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment. Excellent communication, computer and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other professionals, to produce appropriate documentation, and to present results to a limited internal audience. The ability to work both independently and as a team lead is essential. Able to work extended hours as required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
