Required Before Applying Active Top Secret/SCI clearance U.S. Citizenship We're looking for a Senior UI/UX Designer to improve internal workflows, processes, and digital products in a mission-focused environment. You'll use user research and human-centered design to understand real needs and turn them into practical, intuitive solutions. You'll work closely with users, developers, stakeholders, and senior leaders across a complex organization. We're looking for someone who can introduce new research methods, challenge assumptions, and help teams make better decisions based on evidence—not guesswork. What You'll Do Plan and conduct user research through interviews, surveys, usability testing, observation, contextual inquiry, and other methods Apply human-centered design and design-thinking principles throughout the research and design process Create personas, journey maps, user flows, process flows, wireframes, and other design artifacts Build prototypes and test them with users to validate concepts and improve the experience Turn qualitative and quantitative research into clear findings and practical recommendations Work with developers and stakeholders to ensure design requirements are understood and implemented effectively Facilitate design workshops and collaborative research sessions Present research findings and design recommendations to technical teams, stakeholders, and senior leaders Identify opportunities to improve products, workflows, and processes within operational constraints Introduce useful research methods, tools, and practices from commercial and non-government environments Build trusted relationships across teams and organizational boundaries Advocate for user research and evidence-based design decisions Stay current on UX practices, research methods, emerging technologies, and industry trends What You'll Bring A bachelor's degree and at least eight years of relevant experience, or a master's degree and at least six years of relevant experience Five additional years of relevant experience may substitute for a bachelor's degree Professional experience conducting user interviews, surveys, usability tests, and user-feedback analysis Experience creating wireframes and prototypes using Figma, Axure, or similar tools Strong knowledge of human-centered design, user-centered design, and design thinking Experience using design systems and style guides to create consistent digital experiences The ability to combine qualitative and quantitative findings into actionable recommendations Experience communicating research findings and design requirements to software development teams Strong writing, presentation, communication, and facilitation skills The ability to adapt your communication for technical, nontechnical, and executive audiences Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and diverse stakeholders Empathy, curiosity, flexibility, and sound judgment when approaching complex challenges The ability to work effectively in a complex, mission-focused environment Helpful, but Not Required Experience with Dovetail or another research repository platform Experience using usability-testing results and user feedback to guide iterative improvements Experience introducing new UX research tools, methods, or practices within an organization Experience facilitating design workshops, participatory design sessions, or collaborative research Familiarity with emerging UX research technologies and methodologies You'll Thrive in This Role If You… See UX as more than creating attractive interfaces Enjoy talking with users and uncovering what they actually need Can turn complicated research into clear, achievable design decisions Are comfortable collaborating with everyone from software developers to executive leaders Know when to challenge an assumption or try a different research approach Can balance user needs with technical, organizational, and operational realities Build trust and help others understand the value of user research Want to create solutions that are intuitive, practical, maintainable, and grounded in evidence If you're an experienced researcher and designer who enjoys untangling complex problems and making people's work easier, we'd like to hear from you.
