Job Description

Position Overview The Director, Baserunning will lead the Miami Marlins' baserunning strategy across the Major League club and Minor League system. This leader will establish the organizational philosophy and equip coaches with the standards, resources, and support needed to teach baserunning consistently. The goal is to create a coaching system that produces additional bases, prevents unnecessary outs, and applies pressure on opponents. What You Will Lead Organizational Baserunning System
  • Establish a clear philosophy, shared vocabulary, and decision-making principles.
  • Build an organization-wide curriculum supported by coaching progressions, drills, video, and game-planning resources.
  • Set consistent teaching standards while allowing coaches to adapt instruction to each player's abilities, needs, and role.
  • Define how core baserunning skills, decisions, and game awareness should be taught throughout the organization. Coach Development
  • Set expectations for how baserunning is taught, reinforced, and evaluated.
  • Partner with managers and coaches to integrate baserunning into practice, preparation, player plans, and game review.
  • Develop coaches' ability to teach decision-making, risk, game context, opponent tendencies, and player-specific opportunities.
  • Observe coaching across affiliates and provide clear, actionable feedback.
  • Create practical resources that help coaches prepare players for game-speed decisions.
  • Build accountability while encouraging curiosity, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Cross-Department Collaboration
  • Serve as the organizational baserunning expert on our model outputs, regularly evaluating and challenging their assumptions and applications.
  • Collaborate across coaching, performance, technology, video, analytics, and other departments to strengthen baserunning instruction.
  • Connect physical preparation and movement qualities to baserunning strategy and teaching.
  • Translate data, research, and video into practical resources coaches can use.
  • Ensure teaching plans and feedback remain connected as players move between affiliates and levels. Data, Technology, and Innovation
  • Establish meaningful measures for evaluating baserunning decisions, execution, preparation, and value.
  • Use data, video, technology, and coach observations to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Test new tools, ideas, and teaching methods before broader implementation. What You Bring
  • High-level baseball coaching or coach-development experience.
  • Deep knowledge of baserunning strategy, technique, decision-making, and instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop coaches and create alignment across multiple environments.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
  • Comfort using data, technology, video, and observation to improve coaching.
  • Curiosity, learning agility, and a willingness to challenge traditional assumptions.
  • Spanish proficiency and cross-cultural experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel and work a professional baseball schedule.
