Job Description

Game Master - Part-time (5 - 15 hrs/week) We are seeking personable, positive, outgoing, motivated and independent employees who are cheerful around our customers, able to think critically, improvise when needed and are able to speak in public to large groups. Our goal is to provide a fun, safe and exciting experience to our customers and our Game Masters are the team members who make sure this happens! If these qualities apply to you, we'd love to hear from you! Schedule While we offer some flexibility in scheduling, we are specifically looking for candidates with consistent weekend availability . Position Description The game master runs all aspects of escape room games, including customer interaction, room/story introduction, game monitoring and room resetting after the game. Major Areas of Responsibility Greeting players and briefing the rules / game scenario / safety policies Monitoring the escape room game via audio/visual equipment and offering hints when needed Answering questions and helping with group photos after the game Resetting the game room to prepare for next player Secondary Areas of Responsibility Answering the phone and email as needed Answering questions for customers who walk into the lobby as needed Assisting with reservations as needed, including in-person payment collection Monitoring / ensuring security of facility (locking up at the end of the day, handling customer payment information) Primary Objectives The game master is the primary position for running escape room games. They perform all functions related to gameplay and are responsible for ensuring customers have a fun and safe experience. Specific Responsibilities of the Job Welcome players to lobby Ensure all players have shown up Facilitate signing of liability waiver and locking up belongings (food/drinks/phones/cameras/bags) Brief safety rules Brief the team on the game's backstory Answer any pre-game questions Perform role-playing as a game-related character Lead team to game room and start game via computer Monitor gameplay via cameras and microphones from the game control desk Identify when hints are needed and provide them as required via microphone or walkie-talkie Respond to unexpected situations such as a prop malfunctions or safety violations to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience End game on schedule if the team cannot complete the game in allotted time Debrief team following game and provide props/clothing to take group pictures. Quickly reset game room for the next group (must take less than 8 min) Provide a fun, positive customer experience and encourage players both to return to play the other rooms and leave online reviews Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Communicate articulately in both written and oral English (Spanish proficiency is a plus) Instill/encourage enthusiasm in game participants Operate a computer, mouse, keyboard Speak clearly and comfortably in front of an audience of up to 30 people with high enthusiasm Quickly sanitize and reset puzzles and props in a game (<15 minutes per room) Follow written checklists Monitor gameplay for player safety and equipment abuse Age, Education and Experience Must be at least 16 years old to apply No previous experience required, but previous customer service / interaction is viewed favorably Previous acting and public speaking experience is viewed favorably We are looking for positive, self-motivated individuals who take initiative without continuous supervision Physical Demands While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to see, talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle, manipulate or feel. The employee is often required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands and to stoop, kneel, or crouch. Vision abilities required to perform this job include both near and far vision. Standing / walking will be required for up to 60 min at a time. Work Environment While performing the responsibilities of the job, these work environment characteristics are representative of the environment the job holder will encounter: The job will take place in an indoor retail gameplay environment (indoor shopping mall). While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to handle objects weighing less than 25 lbs. The noise level in the work environment is quiet (monitoring game while doors to business are closed and no one is in lobby) to moderate (up to 30 people talking in lobby).
