Principal Test Engineer responsible for designing automated test equipment systems, developing test automation, integrating hardware and software, and supporting electrical testing in contract manufacturing or OEM environments. Job Requirements 4-year degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered Minimum of 7 years of experience designing automated test equipment systems Experience in an electrical testing environment Contract manufacturing or OEM environment experience Automated Test Equipment system architecture experience Experience designing end-to-end ATE systems, including requirements, hardware selection, software design, integration, and validation Experience with PXI systems Experience with COTS instrumentation Signal routing experience Fixture design experience Data acquisition architecture experience Software development experience with C, C#, or LabWindows/CVI Experience developing test automation and instrument control solutions Experience writing APIs, hardware abstraction layers, calibration routines, or automated test frameworks Hardware and software integration experience System-level troubleshooting experience across electrical, firmware, software, and mechanical interfaces Electrical engineering fundamentals and instrumentation knowledge Experience reading schematics Experience with measurement systems Experience with GPIB, RS-232, or PXI interfaces Signal integrity knowledge Calibration principles knowledge Requirements analysis experience Test strategy development experience Experience translating customer requirements into system-level test plans, acceptance criteria, and process documentation Preferred Skills RF systems knowledge DoD or defense environment experience Clearance environment experience Secure environment experience Configuration control experience Product qualification experience Formal development lifecycle experience Experience creating test plans, ATPs, IQ/OQ/PQ documentation, and TMV documentation Experience defining test requirements and product readiness criteria Experience setting test engineering standards Experience mentoring junior test engineers Experience influencing technical direction across hardware, software, and systems engineering teams Job Responsibilities Design automated test equipment systems for electrical testing applications Own test system architecture from concept through deployment Lead ATE development across hardware, software, and systems engineering functions Define test requirements based on internal and external customer requirements Develop system-level test plans, acceptance criteria, and process documentation Select hardware, instrumentation, signal routing, fixtures, and data acquisition architecture for test systems Develop test automation software using C, C#, LabWindows/CVI, or related tools Create APIs, hardware abstraction layers, calibration routines, and automated test frameworks Integrate hardware and software components within automated test systems Validate test systems prior to deployment Troubleshoot complex issues across electrical, firmware, software, and mechanical interfaces Review schematics, measurement systems, instrumentation interfaces, and calibration requirements Support product qualification and readiness for deployment Maintain documentation for secure, regulated, or defense-related environments Support configuration control and formal development lifecycle requirements Guide cross-functional technical teams on test strategy and architecture Mentor junior test engineers Establish and improve automated test development practices across the organization
