Job Description

Washburn County is currently accepting applications for an On-call Transport Officer for the Washburn County Sheriff's Office. This position is responsible for maintaining control of inmates and providing safe and secure transports of inmates to/from facilities. This position reports to the Jail Captain. Responds to calls for emergency transports as needed. In addition, this position will assist in jail operations when required. Primary Duties/Job Functions The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be assigned or required. Coordinate with Jail Captain, Jail Lt. and/or the Sheriff or Chief Deputy to determine when prisoners need to be transported to/from other facilities. Transport inmates to and from other facilities (i.e., jail; prison, mental, medical, and/or juvenile facilities; courts; etc.). Responsible for maintenance of transport vehicle. Maintain various records and prepare reports as needed. Perform other specific or special assignments as designated by the Jail Captain, Chief Deputy or Sheriff. Essential Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Training Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks. Ability to maintain control of inmate and to provide safe and secure transports. Ability to communicate well orally and in writing. Ability to operate various office equipment and radio equipment. Ability to maintain prompt, predictable and reliable attendance. Ability to maintain valid WI Driver's License.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIRED
Possess high school diploma or equivalent. Must be at least 18 years of age, with no prior felony convictions or any criminal record and possess a valid Wisconsin Driver's License Physical Demands and Work Environment The physical and environmental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to walk, sit, stand, bend, twist, stoop, push, pull, carry and lift as needed. Ability to travel to various locations as needed. Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet and limbs in performing skilled movements, such as surveillance, gathering information and assessing the situation. Due to the nature of the position, there could at times by a high level of physical activity exerted and may require running, transporting heavy objects and employing physical force in unusual or emergency situations.
