Job Description
Under general supervision, patrols City streets; enforces local, state and federal laws; maintains law and order and protects life, property and deters crime. Enforces all federal and state laws and City ordinates relating to public safety and welfare: performs all duties in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulation and standards of safety. Performs routine patrol duties, including but not limited to patrolling assigned areas of the City, responding to emergency calls and/or public calls for assistance, investigating criminal incidents, apprehending and arresting suspects and violent persons, securing crime scenes, issuing traffic citations/summonses, conducting traffic stops, seizing property and/or criminal evidence, fingerprinting, photographing suspects, maintaining public order, interrogating suspects, transporting prisoners and mentally ill patients, and performing related tasks. Receives reviews, prepares and/or submits various documents, including incident reports, accident reports, booking reports, fingerprint cards, maintenance records, victim reports, evidence/property records and reports, traffic citations, use of force reports, and related documents. Serves warrants, summonses, subpoenas, civil and other official papers. Assists in criminal investigations. Provides testimony and presents evidence in court; provides court security as required. Performs duties related to crime prevention and community relations. Provides information to and communicates with immediate supervisor, other department supervisors, coworkers, subordinates, other City personnel, other law enforcement agencies, emergency response department/agencies, court personnel, attorneys, suspects, victims, witnesses, complainants, business/property owners, civic/community organizations, and the general public. Assists with emergency rescue activities as needed. Attends required training courses and seminars; participates in required activities. Attends departmental meetings. Processes prisoners entering the jail system by searching prisoners before entering jail areas, taking finger prints and taking photographs.
