Job Description
TITLE:
School Bus Driver/Substitute Bus DriverQUALIFICATIONS
High school graduate Shall be in compliance with regulations established by the federal government, State Department of Education, and the Scottsboro City Board of Education. Each applicant shall fill out, in detail, and in his or her own handwriting, a support personnel application form Hold a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with passenger and S-endorsement. Hold a valid Alabama school bus driver's certificate. Shall pass a D.O.T. examination upon initial employment and one every two years as prescribed by the Scottsboro City Board of Education, no later than April 1, and meet such requirements as may be prescribed by law or regulations, which includes drugs and alcohol testing, medical clearance is needed for driver, including condition of heart, blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, TB, hearing, vision and overall physical condition. Hiring is contingent upon passing a drug and alcohol test and submitting to fingerprinting and a background check. Shall always be clean and neat and dress appropriately for the position of bus driver.REPORTS TO
Transportation Director/PrincipalsDUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Shall agree to attend instructional meetings and workshops and participate in staff development, as required by the Board of Education. Obey all traffic laws. Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses. Maintain order and report disciplinary problems to the principal or his designee. Keep assigned bus clean. Adhere to assigned schedule pertaining to bus routes. Check bus before each operation for mechanical defects and fill out pre-trip inspection form. Notify the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness. Discharge students only at authorized stops. Report all accidents and complete required reports. Adhere to all regulations and policies against use of tobacco, drugs, and alcohol. Report to his or her principal any violent, disruptive incident (physical violence with or without a weapon, vandalism and property damage) on the day the incident occurs, or as soon as possible. Report all absences. Act courteously at all times. Deplete brake pressure so brakes will be locked down upon leaving the bus. Walk the aisle before leaving the bus after each trip to check for sleeping children. Lights are to be activated when loading and unloading students. Perform reasonable job and related duties and task as requested by the Superintendent of Education and the appropriate supervisory personnel.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Regular school term of 184 days or for the remainder of the school year if hired after the first day of school. Salary is established by the Scottsboro City Schools School Bus Driver/Substitute Driver Salary Schedule.EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board regarding the evaluation of support personnel. REVISED (Board Approved): 06-13-24Benefits
