Job Description
Job Summary Join our team as a School Bus Driver and become a vital part of ensuring safe, reliable transportation for students. In this energetic role, you will operate school buses and other authorized vehicles, providing a positive experience for young passengers while adhering to all safety and traffic regulations. Responsibilities Safely operate school buses and other transit vehicles on designated routes, including city streets and residential areas. Conduct thorough vehicle inspections before and after each shift to ensure safety and proper functioning, including checks of air brake systems and mechanical components. Follow all transportation safety regulations, including AZDPS (Arizona Department of Public Safety and DOT (Department of Transportation), to maintain compliance at all times. Navigate traffic laws effectively, demonstrating defensive driving techniques to prevent accidents and ensure passenger safety in all weather conditions. Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, providing special needs assistance when required, while maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor. Communicate clearly with dispatch using two-way radios for driver communication, updating them on route progress or any incidents. Maintain accurate logs of daily routes, vehicle inspections, passenger counts, and incident reports as required by transportation regulations. Requirements Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for school bus operation, including air brake certification. Proven experience in bus driving, shuttle driving, or delivery driving with a focus on safety and customer service. Mechanical knowledge to perform basic vehicle inspections and identify maintenance needs promptly. Strong understanding of traffic laws, city street navigation, and transportation safety regulations. Ability to drive in adverse weather conditions while maintaining safety standards. Excellent communication skills in English to interact effectively with students, parents, staff, and dispatch personnel. Knowledge of AZDPS (Arizona Department Of Public Safety) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and rules governing commercial driving. Prior experience using two-way radios for driver communication is preferred. Demonstrated ability to provide passenger assistance and support passengers with special needs when necessary.
