Our bus drivers pick students up in the morning, bring them home after school, and drive students to school sponsored events. If you love kids and are looking for part-time work, consider becoming a VCS bus driver. Under the direction of the Director of Facilities Maintenance & Transportation, the Substitute School Bus Driver covers regular bus drivers when they are unavailable to operate school buses on passenger routes, transporting pupils and school groups to and from school to other schools and events, and on special field trips. Drivers are required to perform a variety of non-bus driving duties, including performing crossing guard duties, safety checks of vehicles and equipment, and maintaining a daily log, as assigned.
Responsibilities Include:
Drive a bus for any designated route according to an established time schedule; pick up and discharge pupils at designated stops; assist students crossing streets as necessary. Transport students and teachers on special educational field trips and to athletic events as directed. Crossing guard duties in the morning and/or afternoon Perform daily check of bus and safety equipment; clean and fuel bus; report mechanical difficulties to appropriate staff. Maintain daily records of mileage, student count, driving time and non-driving time; prepare monthly reports. Supervise student behavior on bus according to established policies and procedures. Attend in-service training and other meetings as directed. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Possess a Class B commercial driver's license with passenger endorsement, air brake endorsement, and Bus Driver Certificate issued by the California Highway Patrol (company willing to assist with obtaining endorsements) Pass a First Aid test issued by the Highway Patrol or American Red Cross Have a medical examination every two years. Drive school bus safely. Punctual and Dependable Maintain order among students while on a bus. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Meet schedules and timelines. Maintain records and prepare reports. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Adapt to interruptions and changes in the daily routine. Lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
