The City of Simi Valley is looking for part‑time Transit Coach Operators—dedicated individuals who take pride in providing great customer service while safely operating a range of public transit vehicles, from mid- and small-sized vans to 35-40 ft. buses and Dial‑A‑Ride services. Whether you're just starting out or bringing valuable driving experience, this role lets you make a real difference every day by supporting reliable mobility for our community.
POSITION DETAILS
Salary range: $24.12 - $30.82 + Excellent Benefits
Salary Increases:
3% Cost of Living adjustment increase effective 7/13/26 3% Cost of Living adjustment increase effective 7/12/27 Salary placement is generally at the beginning of the range. Advanced placement may be considered based on related education and experience.
Status:
Regular, Part-Time position Work schedule: Must be willing to work varied hours, including operational holidays, Saturdays, early morning hours (from 4:30 a.m.), and/or evenings (until 8:30 p.m.)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education/Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience:
One year of experience in the operation of a transit vehicle.
License or Certificate:
Possession of an appropriate, valid commercial driver's license with passenger endorsement. Possession of a valid Medical Examination Certification. Possession of, or ability to obtain within the probationary period, a Verification of Transit Training certificate.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will possess: Strong commitment to public safety and punctuality. Clean driving record. Experience operating commercial or transit vehicles in varied traffic and weather conditions. Experience assisting passengers with special needs, including operating wheelchair lifts and securing mobility devices. Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in fast-paced or challenging situations. Experience with pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle cleanliness and readiness. Flexibility with scheduling, with the ability to work weekends and holidays. Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with passengers, coworkers, and supervisors. Ability to understand and follow City policies, safety procedures, and recordkeeping requirements. Strong sense of responsibility in serving the community.
