CDL Bus Driver Lowell School - 4.6 Washington, DC Job Details Part-time | Full-time $31 - $33 an hour 23 hours ago Qualifications Record keeping Teamwork Phone communication Passenger Endorsement Performing regular vehicle safety checks School Bus Endorsement CDL Maintenance activity documentation Air Brake Endorsement Air brake Machine minor repairs Full Job Description CDL Driver Lowell School, a progressive school of approximately 300 students in NW Washington, DC, seeks a reliable, safety-focused, and student-centered CDL Bus Driver to join our Facilities team. The ideal candidate will have extensive passenger driving experience, a strong commitment to student safety, and the ability to represent the school community with professionalism and care. This position reports to the Director of Finance and Operations.
Qualifications:
Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger, air brake, and school bus endorsements required. Minimum of five years of passenger driving experience, preferably in a school, charter, or transit setting. Demonstrated positive driving record and commitment to safe driving practices. Ability to conduct vehicle inspections and identify basic maintenance or safety concerns. Ability to perform minor vehicle maintenance, including checking and adding fluids and making minor adjustments as needed. Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively via phone, text, and email regarding job-related responsibilities. Comfortable using onboard technology, including GPS, bus tracking, and student tracking applications. Ability to maintain accurate trip logs and vehicle records. Collaborative, dependable, and able to maintain positive working relationships with school personnel, families, and vendors. Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends for school events, field trips, or athletic activities.Major Responsibilities:
Safely transport students on regularly scheduled routes and to off-site activities, athletic events, field trips, and other school-sponsored events. Create a safe, calm, and supportive environment for students during transportation. Complete required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections before and after each use. Ensure buses and fleet vehicles are clean, fueled, and maintained in safe operating condition. Monitor vehicle performance and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns. Adhere to all CDL requirements, Department of Transportation regulations, and OSHA safety standards. Maintain accurate transportation, mileage, and vehicle maintenance records. Communicate effectively with supervisors and school personnel regarding schedules, delays, or transportation needs. Participate in required trainings and professional development related to transportation safety and best practices. Support additional Facilities Team responsibilities as assigned. Maintain flexibility to adapt to changing transportation schedules and school needs. Represent Lowell School professionally and positively when interacting with students, families, faculty, and community members.Physical Requirements:
As a CDL Bus Driver, you will be actively engaged in the following: Driving and operating school buses and other fleet vehicles safely for extended periods of time. Conducting vehicle inspections that may require bending, crouching, kneeling, climbing, and reaching. Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects up to 30 pounds unassisted. Working in varying weather conditions, including heat and cold temperatures. Responding quickly and attentively to student and safety needs during transportation activities. Working around vehicle and machinery noise on a regular basis. Meeting all Department of Transportation physical examination and drug screening requirements. Successfully completing required background checks.
