You will operate school buses and specialized vehicles, adhering to all traffic laws, safety regulations, and school policies. Responsibilities Safely operate school buses and paratransit vehicles, including wheelchair assistance and heavy lifting when necessary. Follow all traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations to ensure passenger safety at all times. Conduct pre-trip inspections to verify vehicle condition, mechanical functionality, and safety equipment readiness. Provide excellent customer service by maintaining positive communication with students, parents, staff, and school personnel. Manage student behavior effectively through behavior management techniques and enforce school policies during transit. Respond quickly to traffic changes, emergency stop procedures, and emergency response protocols for transportation incidents. Assist students with disabilities or special needs using proper child care techniques and mechanical knowledge for wheelchair securement. Maintain accurate logs of routes, passenger counts, incidents, and vehicle maintenance reports. Communicate clearly in English (and multilingual if applicable) to ensure instructions are understood by all passengers. Experience Proven experience in bus driving, commercial driving, or transit bus operation preferred. Knowledge of school bus driving regulations, transportation safety standards, and traffic laws at the state and local levels. Experience working with children or in childcare environments is highly valued. Familiarity with emergency response procedures for transportation incidents including CPR and first aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Mechanical knowledge of vehicle systems for basic troubleshooting and maintenance understanding. Strong communication skills with the ability to manage student discipline effectively. Ability to respond quickly to traffic changes while maintaining focus on passenger safety. Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus for serving diverse communities.
