Clearwater, FL About Athenian Academy Athenian Academy is a K-8 public charter school in Clearwater, FL.Rooted in a classical curriculum, we are dedicated to providing a safe, structured, and academically rigorous environment for our students. Position Summary Athenian Academy is seeking a reliable, safety-focused School Bus Driver to transport students to and from school and school-related activities. We are hiring for both part-time (AM/PM route only) and full-time (routes plus midday/activity trips) schedules — candidates should indicate their availability preference when applying. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Safely operate a school bus along assigned routes, adhering to all traffic laws and school transportation policies Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting mechanical issues promptly Maintain discipline and ensure the safety of all students while boarding, riding, and exiting the bus Follow all designated routes and stops, maintaining an on-time schedule Communicate effectively with school administration, parents, and staff regarding schedules or incidents Maintain accurate records, including ridership logs and incident reports Assist students with special needs as required, including operation of wheelchair lifts if applicable Keep the bus interior clean and report any needed maintenance or repairs Participate in required safety drills (e.g., evacuation drills) with students Attend required trainings and in-service sessions Qualifications Valid Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements Current DOT medical certification Clean driving record; must meet FLDOE and district driving history requirements Successful completion of Level 2 background screening (fingerprinting) per Florida Statute §435 and §1012.32 Completion of a pre-employment drug test and participation in random drug/alcohol testing program (per
FMCSA/DOT
requirements) Prior school bus driving experience preferred but not required — training provided for qualified candidates Strong communication skills and ability to maintain composure and authority with students Punctual, dependable, and comfortable working with children of all ages
Schedule Possibilities Part-Time:
Morning and afternoon routes only (approx. 4-5 hours/day, school calendar year)
Full-Time:
Morning/afternoon routes plus field trips, athletic transport, and midday routes as needed (benefits-eligible) Physical Requirements Ability to sit for extended periods while driving Ability to assist students boarding/exiting, including physical support as needed Ability to perform pre-trip inspections, including checking under the hood and around the vehicle Athenian Academy is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
