The School Bus Operators are assigned to regular routes and are responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school, field trips, and other authorized activities. This position ensures adherence to all traffic laws, safety regulations, and district policies while fostering a respectful and positive environment for passengers.

Minimum Qualifications:

Successful completion of the School District of Lee County School Bus Operator Trainee program or; Valid drivers license with a minimum of five years driving history that includes no violations as outlined in the Safe Driver Plan. Valid Florida commercial Class B (CDL) driver's license with School Bus (S), Passenger Vehicle (P), and Air Brake endorsements. Demonstrated ability to communicate in English with sufficient skill to safely perform job duties. Successful completion of a Florida Department of Education (DOE) approved training course for school bus operators. Successful completion of drug and alcohol screenings. Successful completion of a Department of Transportation (DOT) medical examination. Successful completion of the dexterity test. Valid Adult and Child First Aid/CPR/AED certificate issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Essential Job Functions:

Operate a school bus along designated routes and schedules, following all traffic laws and safety regulations. Adhere to all district policies, state and federal regulations, and guidelines regarding traffic laws, safety, and student conduct. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure safe operating conditions, reporting any mechanical issues promptly. Safely load and unload students at designated stops, ensuring proper crossing procedures are followed. Maintain discipline on the bus, promoting a safe and respectful atmosphere for students. Communicate effectively with parents, school staff, and transportation supervisors regarding student behavior or safety concerns. Respond appropriately to emergency situations, including administering basic first aid if necessary. Keep the bus clean and free of hazards. Attend required safety, training, and professional development sessions. Complete and submit required reports, such as incident reports, route logs, and mileage records. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Pay:

$19.57 per hour, 8 hours per day, 186 days per year
