Veterans Preference Sub Bus Driver All applicants, if hired, initially are classified as a "sub" until they complete the paid training of approximately 40 hours (if CDL licensed in Florida). During training, the wage has increased to $18.00/hour! After successfully completing the paid training, sub bus drivers then reapply through the Citrus County Schools Employee system for the regular position as a Bus Operator with an increase in pay to $20.09/hour!
Job Goal:
To safely and efficiently transport students to and from their school site and/or special events
Responsibilities:
Comply with all State and local traffic laws and School Board policies and procedures relative to the safe operation of a bus. Perform a pre-trip inspection in accordance with the Department of Education Driver Curriculum Training Manual Assume responsibility for the safety of the passengers, including loading and unloading Instruct students in safety precautions and practices Maintain appropriate student discipline, following established discipline procedures Keep interior and exterior of bus clean at all times Prepare FEFP and other required reports accurately and submit in accordance with procedures Report to mechanic or appropriate administrator any defects, needed repairs, or other problems which would impact the safe operation of the bus Complete required in-service and training programs Use effective, positive interpersonal communication skills Make recommendations to improve the school bus route, stop, and loading/unloading zones at schools Wear a specified uniform while on duty Perform job responsibilities with sustained focus and attention to detail for extended periods of time Perform other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED preferred At least five (5) years of licensed driving experience Ability to obtain valid Florida Commercial Drivers License, Class B, with passenger and air brakes endorsements following paid training period and prior to route assignment 40-hour Certificate of Completion for School Bus Operator from a Florida school district or, when paid training is completed, the Certificate will be supplied by Citrus County School District Employer requires a physical examination and dexterity test in accordance with State Board Rule Employer conducts pre-employment drug screening and local, state and federal background check. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently as needed to move objects
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrate understanding and application of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations and of the precautions necessary to avoid accidents Ability to operate school bus in a safe and economical manner Ability to understand and carry out both written and oral directions Ability to exercise appropriate disciplinary techniques Ability to work well with students, parents, school personnel, and other transportation staff Reports to:
