JOB PURPOSE

The primary purpose of the School Bus Driver position is to provide safe, reliable, and timely transportation for students to and from school, designated stops, and school-related events. Drivers play a vital role in ensuring a secure and supportive environment for students while maintaining compliance with all state regulations and school policies. This position supports the educational mission by promoting safety, punctuality, and professionalism in student transportation services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Safely operate a school bus on scheduled routes and field trips.
• Conduct and document pre- and post-trip safety inspections daily.
• Enforce student conduct rules and manage onboard behavior.
• Load and unload students safely, following legal and procedural guidelines.
• Maintain effective communication with dispatch and supervisors.
• Keep bus clean and sanitized; ensure seatbelts are functional and used.
• Respond appropriately to traffic, weather, and emergency situations.
• Accurately complete required reports, including mileage logs and incident forms.
• Attend required trainings (e.g., CPR/First Aid, annual physicals, compliance sessions).
• Assist students during boarding, exiting, and emergency evacuations.
• Represent the school professionally with students, families, and staff.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Defensive Driving Skills:

Ability to operate a school bus safely under varying traffic, weather, and road conditions.

Student Behavior Management:

Capable of maintaining order and enforcing rules to ensure passenger safety.

Communication Skills:

Clear verbal communication for interacting with students, parents, staff, and dispatch personnel.

Situational Awareness:

Strong judgment and attention to surroundings to identify and respond to potential hazards.

Time Management:

Ability to adhere to a fixed schedule and respond to changes in routes or timing efficiently.

Mechanical Awareness:

Basic knowledge of vehicle functions and the ability to recognize maintenance issues.

Documentation Skills:

Competent in completing inspection reports, mileage logs, and incident forms accurately.

Customer Service Orientation:

Professional, courteous, and respectful conduct with students, parents, and staff.

Knowledge of Safety Procedures:

Understanding of emergency protocols, traffic laws, and state/federal transportation regulations.

Technology Use:

Familiarity with or ability to learn communication tools such as two-way radios and route navigation systems.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Must be at least 21 years of age . High School Diploma or equivalent. Fluent in English (spoken and written). Valid Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements. Clean driving record; pass background check and drug/alcohol screenings. Completion of required medical exam and annual physical. CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Physically able to assist in emergency situations and evacuations. Adherence to professional standards of conduct, appearance, and confidentiality.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary and benefits will be provided in accordance with the School's established compensation and benefits policies. The work year and hours of employment will be determined by ENCCS guidelines.

FLSA OVERTIME CATEGORY

Job is non-exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

EVALUATION

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Eagles' Nest Community Charter Schools' policy.
