No Position Summary The Mini Bus/Mini Van Driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and designated locations in accordance with district transportation policies and procedures. The driver provides safe, reliable, and courteous transportation while maintaining a professional environment for students. This position operates a district-approved mini bus or mini van that does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) under applicable requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Safely transport students according to assigned routes, schedules, and transportation procedures. Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections. Maintain a safe and orderly environment while students are in the vehicle. Follow all traffic laws, district transportation policies, and safety procedures. Pick up and drop off students only at authorized locations. Ensure students enter and exit the vehicle safely. Maintain appropriate student supervision while operating the vehicle. Communicate professionally with students, parents/guardians, school staff, and Transportation Department personnel. Report accidents, incidents, student concerns, vehicle problems, or safety issues immediately. Maintain accurate records, including mileage, vehicle inspections, student counts, and other required documentation. Operate district communication equipment as instructed. Use assigned technology, routing information, and GPS systems as required. Follow assigned routes and schedules while recognizing that traffic, weather, construction, and student needs may affect transportation times. Keep the assigned vehicle clean and report maintenance needs promptly. Secure the vehicle when unattended. Assist with student loading and unloading when necessary. Follow all confidentiality requirements regarding student information. Attend required transportation meetings, training, and safety programs. Perform other transportation-related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Valid Indiana driver's license. Must meet district and state requirements for operating the assigned vehicle. Must maintain an acceptable driving record. Must successfully complete required background checks and employment screenings. Must successfully complete required transportation, safety, and student-management training. Ability to communicate effectively with students and adults. Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to safely assist students with entering and exiting the vehicle. A CDL is not required for this position when operating a district vehicle that falls within the applicable non-CDL requirements. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience working with children or students. Previous passenger transportation experience. School transportation experience. Experience working with students with disabilities is preferred but not required. Physical Requirements The employee must be able to: Sit for extended periods while operating the vehicle. Assist students as needed. Respond appropriately to emergency situations. Maintain sufficient visual, auditory, and physical ability to safely operate the vehicle. Working Conditions Work may occur during early morning, afternoon, and evening hours. May be required to work during changing weather and traffic conditions. May transport students with a variety of physical, behavioral, or educational needs. Must maintain a safe, respectful, and professional environment at all times. Safety Responsibilities The Mini Bus/Mini Van Driver is responsible for placing student safety first. Drivers are expected to follow all district transportation procedures, vehicle safety requirements, student loading and unloading procedures, and emergency protocols.
