Job Description
Overview Join our team as a Nantucket School Bus Driver and become a vital part of ensuring safe, reliable transportation for students and staff. In this energetic role, you will operate school buses with precision and care, providing a positive experience for passengers while adhering to all safety regulations. This is a paid position that offers an opportunity to showcase your driving skills and commitment to community safety. Duties Safely operate school buses on city streets, school routes, and special trips while following traffic laws and transportation safety regulations Conduct thorough vehicle inspections before and after routes to ensure mechanical soundness and compliance with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, including providing special needs assistance when required Maintain communication with dispatchers using two-way radios to coordinate routes and respond to any on-road issues promptly Follow all traffic laws, including those related to air brakes, commercial driving standards, and adverse weather conditions Ensure passenger safety by enforcing rules, managing passenger behavior, and providing excellent customer service Complete detailed logs of trips, vehicle inspections, incidents, and route reports accurately and promptly Experience Valid MA driver's license with a clean driving record; commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements such as passenger (S) (P) and air brake (L) is preferred Proven experience in bus driving, shuttle driving, or delivery driving roles demonstrating safe driving practices Knowledge of city street navigation, traffic laws, and transportation safety regulations Mechanical knowledge or maintenance experience is advantageous for vehicle inspections and minor troubleshooting Strong communication skills to interact effectively with passengers, colleagues, and dispatchers in English Experience operating two-way radios for driver communication during routes Ability to drive in adverse weather conditions safely and responsibly Embark on a rewarding career that combines your passion for driving with your desire to serve the community.
