Job Description
Job Overview Join our Small, Family owned team as a School Bus Driver and become a vital part of ensuring safe, reliable transportation for students in the Howard County, MD community. In this energetic role, you'll operate school buses with professionalism, providing a positive experience for young passengers while adhering to all safety and traffic regulations. Your dedication will help foster a secure environment where students feel cared for and confident during their daily commute. This paid position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the community while developing valuable driving and customer service skills. This position features Summers, & most Holidays off, With a split shift Schedule (typically 6:30-9:30 AM then 2-5 PM). Responsibilities Safely operate school buses along designated routes, ensuring punctuality and adherence to schedules Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus, including providing wheelchair assistance when needed Follow traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations at all times to maintain a secure environment Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety and report any issues promptly Manage student behavior with effective discipline techniques, fostering a respectful and safe atmosphere onboard Respond quickly to traffic changes, emergency stop procedures, and other unexpected situations to ensure passenger safety Communicate clearly with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers using professional language and active listening skills Requirements Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate school bus endorsements or ability to obtain one prior to employment Proven experience in bus driving, school bus operation, or transit bus operation preferred Knowledge of traffic laws, emergency response procedures for transportation, and transportation safety regulations Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting students or handling equipment safely First aid certification including CPR is highly desirable; willingness to obtain if not already certified Excellent communication skills in English; experience working with children or in customer service is a plus Familiarity with student discipline strategies and behavior management techniques Ability to respond quickly to traffic changes and emergency situations with calmness and professionalism Understanding of vehicle codes, school policy knowledge, and state/local commercial driving laws Embark on a rewarding career that combines driving expertise with community service.
