Job Description
Summary We are seeking a dedicated and reliable individual to fill the role of a Substitute Bus Driver within our Maintenance and Operations department. This position is essential for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of students and other passengers as needed. The ideal candidate will possess strong driving skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to maintaining a safe environment for all riders. Responsibilities Operate school buses and other vehicles safely and efficiently, adhering to all traffic laws and regulations. Provide transportation for students, staff, and other authorized passengers as required. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure safety and operational readiness. Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, ensuring their safety at all times. Maintain accurate records of routes, mileage, and any incidents that occur during transportation. Communicate effectively with dispatch and other staff regarding schedules and any issues that may arise. Follow established routes and schedules while remaining flexible to accommodate changes as needed. Uphold a positive and respectful environment for all passengers, fostering a sense of community and safety. Attend training sessions and meetings as required to stay updated on policies and procedures. Requirements Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for operating a school bus. Clean driving record with no major violations or accidents in the past three years. Previous experience driving large vehicles or buses is preferred but not required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with students, parents, and staff. Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations and respond appropriately to emergencies. Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures related to school transportation. Availability to work on short notice and flexibility to cover various routes as needed. Must pass a background check and drug screening in compliance with district policies.
