Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Bus Driver to ensure safe, reliable, and courteous transportation for passengers of all ages. In this vital role, you will operate various types of buses, including school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vehicles, providing a positive travel experience while adhering to all safety regulations. Your responsibilities will include transporting passengers efficiently, assisting those with special needs, and maintaining a high standard of customer service. Responsibilities Safely operate buses in accordance with traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations. Provide assistance to passengers, including wheelchair assistance and child care support, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the trip. Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents and execute emergency stop procedures when necessary. Conduct pre-trip inspections to verify vehicle mechanical condition and ensure all safety features are functional. Maintain clear communication with dispatchers and passengers using effective communication skills in English or multilingual formats. Manage passenger behavior through positive discipline techniques and behavior management strategies. Respond quickly to traffic changes, detours, or delays to keep routes on schedule while prioritizing passenger safety. Assist with loading and unloading heavy luggage or equipment as required while adhering to proper lifting techniques. Keep accurate records of trips, incidents, and vehicle maintenance logs in compliance with company policies. Experience Proven experience operating commercial vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, or paratransit vehicles. Knowledge of traffic laws, transportation safety regulations, and vehicle codes relevant to bus operation. Experience working with children or senior citizens is highly desirable, demonstrating patience and excellent customer service skills. Familiarity with emergency response procedures for transportation incidents including CPR certification is preferred. Mechanical knowledge of vehicle systems to identify basic issues during inspections is advantageous. Ability to communicate effectively in English; bilingual skills are a plus for serving diverse communities. Prior experience in behavior management or childcare enhances your ability to handle various passenger needs confidently.
