Duties Safely operate school buses in compliance with all traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations. Transport students to and from school, extracurricular activities, and field trips while maintaining punctuality. Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus, including providing wheelchair assistance when needed. Enforce student discipline policies with professionalism and patience to ensure a safe environment onboard. Conduct pre-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure it is in proper working order; report any mechanical issues promptly. Respond quickly to traffic changes or emergencies using emergency response procedures for transportation. Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers using clear communication skills; address behavioral concerns appropriately. Follow all school policies regarding passenger safety, behavior management, and emergency procedures such as CPR and emergency stops. Lift heavy items such as backpacks or equipment when necessary to assist students or maintain bus safety standards. Maintain accurate records of routes, incidents, and vehicle inspections as required by state and local laws. Skills Proven experience in bus driving or transit bus operation with a strong understanding of driving techniques for large vehicles. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations applicable to school bus operation. Ability to respond quickly and effectively to traffic changes or emergencies; trained in emergency response procedures including CPR and first aid. Excellent communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for engaging with diverse student populations. Experience working with children or in childcare settings; capable of managing student behavior positively and effectively. Familiarity with wheelchair assistance protocols and paratransit services for students with mobility needs. Strong customer service orientation with the ability to handle parent inquiries professionally. Knowledge of school policies related to student discipline and safety standards.
