  • To transport students safely and on time to and from schools, activity trips, sporting events and other sanctioned activities; to monitor and ensure the mechanical safety and cleanliness of an assigned vehicle and to report any potentially hazardous situations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS
The following tasks are typical for positions in this classification. Any single position may not perform all of these tasks and/or may perform similar related tasks not listed here:
  • Provide safe and timely transport to and from school, activity trips, sporting events and other sanctioned activities for faculty and students as required.
  • Operate a school bus in heavy traffic and under all weather conditions in an assigned area.
  • Monitor and ensure the mechanical safety and cleanliness of an assigned vehicle and report any potentially hazardous situations as needed.
  • Perform routine inspection of an assigned vehicle including safety checks, sweeping, mopping, washing and fueling the vehicle as required; check and maintain fluid levels; report problems or equipment malfunctions.
  • Maintain good order among students on the bus following District policies regarding the disciplining of children.
  • Attend safety and other meetings regarding school bus driving and maintenance as required.
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures established for work area.
  • Maintain records of all trips; file accident reports when necessary.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of:
  • Principles and practices of school bus operations and maintenance.
  • Principles and applications of traffic and weather safety.
  • Methods and operations of cleaning and maintaining assigned vehicles.
  • City geography and heavy traffic areas.
  • Basic first aid practices.
  • English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local codes, laws and regulations. Ability to:
  • Obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and Department of Transportation physical.
  • Maintain order among students in a school bus.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required.
  • Perform duties relating to the routine maintenance of a school bus including cleaning, maintenance, and fueling as required.
  • Operate a school bus safely and efficiently in heavy traffic and in all weather conditions; recognize malfunctions in equipment and take appropriate action.
  • Work independently with little direction.
  • Meet emergency situations in accordance with operating procedures.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES
Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education:
Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.including supplemental training in the operations and safety of a motor vehicle.
Experience:
Will train and test for licensing individuals who do not currently have a CDL. One year increasingly responsible experience in the operations and maintenance of commercial passenger vehicles is highly desireable.
License or Certificate:
Possession of or ability to obtain a CDL, class B New Mexico driver's license with appropriate endorsements. Meet qualifications as stated in the New Mexico Standards of School Bus Operations. Ability to complete First Aid/CPR certificate and Defensive Driving certificate.
Work Year:
188 days, hourly, schedule determined by route assignment. Evenings and weekends when driving an activity bus.

Assist in and/or perform minor and routine electrical duties; inspect and replace bulbs, ballasts, circuit breakers and related components; install wiring; test systems; refer complex work to higher-level electrical staff. 2. Perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled grounds maintenance duties and operate equipment in the maintenance of school grounds, sports fields and other landscaped areas. 3. Maintain and repair irrigation sprinklers, sprinkler lines and other landscape watering systems. 4. Diagnose, repair and maintain grounds keeping and related equipment. 5. Evaluate athletic field conditions for wear, pest problems, and fertilizer needs; coordinate and participate in the maintenance and preparation of athletic fields for practices, scheduled games and special events. 6. Remove snow in pedestrian and automotive traffic areas as required. 7. Provide assistance to other school staff in construction and other maintenance projects as required. 8. Clean and maintain project area upon completion of work. 9. Follow all safety rules and procedures established for work area. 10. May be assigned some duties at specific sites not traditionally associated with our Maintenance department (i.e. some custodial functions). 11. May be assigned duties similar to a site maintenance worker at lease facilities. 12. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
  • Operations, services and activities of a grounds maintenance program.
  • Methods, procedures and materials used in the maintenance of grounds and landscaped areas.
  • Methods and procedures used in maintaining turf and other surfaces.
  • Small engine repair and maintenance.
  • Methods and techniques of applying herbicides and pesticides in a safe manner.
  • Operational characteristics of mechanical equipment used in the preparation and maintenance of landscaped grounds.
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Ability to:
  • Perform general grounds maintenance and routine gardening work.
  • Operate a variety of grounds maintenance equipment, power and hand tools in a safe and effective manner.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose grounds keeping equipment problems and malfunctions.
  • Repair and maintain mowing equipment used in the maintenance and set up of grounds, sports fields and other landscaped areas.
  • As directed, apply herbicides and pesticides.
  • Perform heavy manual labor.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions, manuals and drawings.
  • Ability to multi task and change priorities frequently.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Education and Experience Guidelines:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience:
One year experience in grounds keeping or a related area.
License or Certificate:
Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license. Possession of, or ability to obtain any appropriate, valid certification as deemed necessary and appropriate by the State of New Mexico or School District. Will need to provide a copy of most recent Driving Record.
