Responsibilities Safely operate various types of buses, including school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vehicles, adhering to all traffic laws and transportation safety regulations Transport passengers along designated routes while maintaining punctuality and efficiency Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, including providing wheelchair assistance and supporting those with mobility needs Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including emergency stop procedures and child or senior care protocols Conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety, report any maintenance issues promptly, and perform heavy lifting when necessary for vehicle checks or loading equipment Manage passenger behavior through effective communication skills and behavior management techniques to ensure a safe environment for all Respond quickly to traffic changes or route adjustments, maintaining a calm demeanor and clear communication with dispatch or passengers Requirements Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; commercial driver's license (CDL) preferred with endorsements for passenger transport Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, or transit bus operation; familiarity with paratransit services is a plus Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, state and local commercial driving laws, and transportation safety regulations Certification in first aid and CPR to handle emergency situations confidently Strong communication skills in English to interact effectively with passengers, colleagues, and emergency responders Experience working with children or seniors is highly desirable; ability to manage student discipline or senior care needs compassionately Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and handle physical tasks associated with vehicle checks or passenger assistance Excellent defensive driving skills combined with quick response abilities to traffic changes or unexpected road conditions Knowledge of child care policies, school policies related to transportation, and behavior management techniques Embark on a rewarding career where every day offers the chance to serve your community with enthusiasm!
