Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Driver to join our transportation team. In this vital role, you will operate various types of vehicles, including school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vehicles, to transport passengers safely and efficiently. Your primary focus will be ensuring passenger safety, adhering to traffic laws and transportation safety regulations, and providing excellent customer service. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact in the community by providing reliable transportation services for children, seniors, and individuals with special needs. All paid positions include comprehensive training and ongoing support to help you succeed. Responsibilities Safely operate commercial vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vans in accordance with state and local laws. Assist passengers with wheelchair boarding, mobility assistance, and provide support for individuals with special needs or disabilities. Follow all traffic laws, vehicle codes, emergency response procedures for transportation, and school or transit policies to ensure safety at all times. Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to identify mechanical issues; perform routine maintenance checks and report any concerns promptly. Respond quickly to traffic changes or road conditions by adjusting routes or driving strategies while maintaining passenger safety. Manage passenger behavior through effective communication and behavior management techniques; ensure a respectful environment onboard. Provide first aid or CPR when necessary; handle emergency stop procedures confidently to protect passengers' well-being. Maintain accurate logs of trips, passenger counts, incidents, and vehicle maintenance records in compliance with transportation safety regulations. Communicate clearly with dispatchers, supervisors, passengers, and parents using multilingual skills if applicable to enhance service quality. Skills Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for bus driving and passenger transport. Extensive knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, heavy lifting techniques, and emergency response procedures related to transportation. Experience working with children or seniors; familiarity with student discipline policies or childcare practices is a plus. Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are highly valued for serving diverse communities. Defensive driving skills coupled with quick response capabilities to adapt swiftly to traffic changes or unexpected road hazards. Mechanical knowledge for basic vehicle troubleshooting and maintenance awareness. Ability to handle stressful situations calmly while maintaining a positive attitude; excellent customer service skills are essential. Knowledge of school policies or transit operation standards; understanding of child safety protocols is preferred.
