Responsibilities Safely operate buses during split shifts, managing pick-up and drop-off routes with precision and care Assist passengers with boarding, including wheelchair assistance and child safety procedures Follow all traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations to ensure passenger and public safety Respond quickly to traffic changes, detours, or emergencies with appropriate defensive driving techniques Conduct vehicle inspections before and after shifts, reporting mechanical issues promptly for maintenance Enforce passenger behavior policies, managing student discipline and ensuring a respectful environment Provide excellent customer service by communicating clearly with passengers of diverse backgrounds, including multilingual support when needed Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including CPR and first aid protocols when necessary Maintain accurate logs of routes, passenger counts, incidents, and vehicle maintenance records Support safe transportation practices by adhering to school policies or transit authority guidelines Skills Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, or transit bus operation with a strong understanding of transportation safety regulations Knowledge of traffic laws, emergency response procedures for transportation, and vehicle codes applicable to commercial driving Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or handling equipment safely Excellent communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities Strong mechanical knowledge for routine vehicle inspections and troubleshooting minor issues Familiarity with child care procedures, student discipline strategies, and behavior management techniques Experience working with children or seniors is highly valued; patience and compassion are essential qualities Valid driver's license with appropriate (F) endorsement; clean driving record required Knowledge of state and local commercial driving laws relevant to school or transit bus operation Ability to respond swiftly to traffic changes or emergencies with quick decision-making skills Writing skills for completing reports accurately; attention to detail is critical Embark on a fulfilling journey where your skills make a real impact—driving safety, fostering community connections, and ensuring every passenger's experience is positive.
